This is one my fave bizarre 'holidays'. People
actually celebrate the nailing of somebody
to a cross. They love it, they put Jesus back
up there and nail him in place for the gazillionth
time. Macabre doesn't even cover it.

The Filipino's go all out, pedal to the medal.
They let themselves be nailed to crosses, in
the spirit of the day. And there are some
that still claim that Xtionity isn't a cult!

If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I've never understood why they call it good Friday. If I was Jesus, I wouldn't consider it one of my better days.

I suppose the same reason they refer to tyranny and inflicted suffering as "love."

It is Good Friday because without Jesus' sacrifice on the cross we would not be free from the guilt and shame of our sin and the consequences of them, namely eternal separation from God.

It does make it a little awkward to say, "Have a good Good Friday."

You have to understand how Xtions
think. Here's their explanation:

Good Friday is “good” because as terrible as that day was, it had to happen for us to receive the joy of Easter.

The suffering is all about them, they're
narcissists of the first order, so it
has to be all about them. It's a me me me
religion. Go to their church for awhile,
it's all about what they want Jesus to do
for THEM. Everything Jesus supposedly
did, he did for them, personally. And will
continue to do if you just ask him.

When I was exploring the religion in the
70's, I was appalled at how 'me' centered
it was. Never saw so many egocentric
people in one place before or since.

So it's called 'Good Friday' because Jesus
gets nailed up there again. For THEM.

Speaking of which, have a good Good Friday.

What do they call it in Spanish?

I get this part, but never got the "Good" part. Good Friday is the most sad and somber day in the Catholic Church. As w.e learned last year, the time between the Good Friday Service and first Easter Service is the only time of year the church "goes dark" completely. Always wished they used a better name.

It's called Good Friday because, Christians believe, there is something very good about it: It is the anniversary, they say, of Jesus suffering and dying for their sins. “That terrible Friday has been called Good Friday because it led to the Resurrection of Jesus"

It's a me me me thing. It's 'good'
for ME, as a Xtion, the he was nailed
in place. That's all that counts, he
died for ME.

If you doubt it, just hang with some
Xtions for awhile, they talk about
themselves endlessly. It's really quite
amazing, the amount of outright
narcissism they exhibit.

Which, of course, means Holy Friday. I like that better than Good Friday.
