Christianity is definitely anti-ego .

Ever listen to a Xtion? All they talk about
is themselves. Me, I, mine, myself, it's
all about them. What can the religion
and Jesus do for me today. He can find
me a parking space, heal somebody
because I asked him to, send me to
heaven because I deserve it, make all
the lights green, bless my food before
I eat, and generally make MY MY MY
life great. It's an ego centered ME
religion.

Your problem is, you can't separate
the religion from the people who
actually practice it. You think because
the bylaws say the religion is unselfish,
that means it actually is. I never saw
so many selfish, self centered, self
worshiping people as I did when I
hung out with Xtions. It's quite disturbing
how into themselves they all are.

Buddhism is about destroying yourself?
Again, you're total ignorance about the
religion is showing. Buddhism is about
affirming life and accepting it for what
it is, not pretending it's something it's
not, which Xtions do every day.

Who do you think knows more you about Christianity or me about Buddhism? I would be willing to take a test to prove I know more about Buddhism than you do (I actually like a lot of things about it). You have been failing the test about what you know about Christianity on this forum for quite some time now.

I'd be happy to administer the test.

EB, do you accept the challenge? Needless to say, searching will be strictly not allowed.

Bob, you are talking to a Christian now. Have I ever said such things? It sounds like you are talking to people that worship a divine vending machine and that is no Christian idea of God. I also don't know of any Christian who would think they deserve Heaven. I do think every Christian I know believes that God loves us all regardless of anything and doesn't love any Christian more than any one else. It is really other and God centered, but Christianity does have a very positive view of self as well.

What I meant about destroying yourself is probably better put as forgetting yourself. Eliminating your passions and desires so as to free yourself from suffering and to cease to exist as an individual. That doesn't seem like affirming or accepting life does it?

Why? Cheating would be a breeze,
what would be the point of it. FrG
makes constant comments about
Buddhism that shows how clueless
he is. Now he wants to show he's really
a Buddhism expert? A day late and
a dollar short when you've already
shown abysmal ignorance on the
subject for years. I was studying
Buddhism before he was born.

I started listening to Alan Watts
in 1970, read The Empty Mirror:
Experiences in a Japanese Zen
Monastery, and other classics
in the early 70's.

I read Zen Flesh Zen Bones about
2 dozen times over a 3 year period
and in the 80's all I played on my
car stereo was Alan Watts tapes.
I have a 3' long space on my book
shelf that's totally devoted to the
Eastern religions. I even practiced
the I Ching for awhile.

The reason I hold Xtionity is such
low regard is that it ruins lives,
especially Catholicism. I could give
details of people I personally know,
but FrG would just pooh pooh it, like
he always does. They didn't have
good enough teachers, their priests
and nuns were lacking, he has endless
excuses as to why his religion fails
so many people.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

That's how Xtions talk, don't you ever
listen to your own followers? I've heard
them all my life. You confuse what
you've been taught the religion should be,
and what it actually is.

You're the Yugo dealer in 1972 who hears
constant complaints about what a crappy
car he sells, and his response is 'They always
look and run great when they leave my lot."
He doesn't get that what he's selling is not
what it really is.

Haven't you heard of the honor system? I can say with a straight face that I've never cheated in a game in my life, even as a kid.

The closest I came is one time in the foreign language club in junior high we were playing French monopoly in teams and I saw my teammate steal a few $500 bills from the bank when the other team wasn't looking. I've felt guilty about not saying anything ever since. How many years in purgatory do I get for that, FrG?

Va au diable. Allez directement à l'enfer. Ne passez pas. Ne pas recueillir €200

I don't trust anybody. Trust but verify, wasn't
that Reagan's motto?

That is a powerful analogy and one that I have to admit hits home and scares me. I have seen countless examples of the faith well lived and leading to glorious lives and families that overcome great difficulties and sorrows as well as sharing in super blessings and successes. I have also seen men and women who I thought very faithful and living good lives who have it all come apart because of some hidden sin or moral failing. I've always wondered how it was possible to live so close to God and yet hold onto this dark side of their lives. The example of pedophile priests come to mind. Is it something wrong with what I am selling? However, I will say that every great failure I have seen in regards to good people losing their faith or letting the sorrows of life overwhelm them has the element of some hidden fault or trouble that they held onto and even tried to hid from God.
