Michigan (69 stores)
California (5 stores)
Ohio (2 stores)
North Dakota (1 store)
Japan (279 stores)

That's bizarre. The one we went to as a kid on Katella and Los Alamitos Blvd is long since gone. I think it is a shoe store now. When I moved to Maryland I suddenly started seeing a bunch of them again. Many of the "rest areas" on the I-95 had one. I'm not sure if the use the term "rest area" on the east coast.

That's very strange about Japan. I thought everybody ate healthy there.

Yet the one that's was there when
I was a kid is still there, 70 years
now. I went there in HS in the 60's
a lot.

This answers your question about
Japan.

Big Boy was an unusual franchise. You just franchised the burger but the rest of the restaurant might and did differ. In these parts Eat n Park had the franchise until the early 70s then dropped it. We then had “Elby’s” BB but “Bob’s” was one state over.

The name was licensed to a Japanese company in 1977, but they never adopted the American style menu.

If you notice the Japanese Big Boy is not holding a hamburger, because they don't serve them there.

I watched that video I posted till
the end, I was surprised they gave
them so much food, I was impressed.
I could never get used to a country
where the currency is expressed in
hundreds and thousands in a restaurant.

They at least kept the interior look the same as I remember them. Even the ugly 1970's colors.

Remember when they had the election to save or ditch Bob? I have a bumper sticker on my guitar case to save him.

One of the graduating classes in my high school, I think the class of 82, I guess as the graduation prank, stole the Bob statue at the location I always went to, broke off some of his limbs, and lynched the rest of him from a tree. It was actually quite sad. They hung him up pretty high so it took a while to remove it and meanwhile every student and teacher saw it.

As a final memory, what was for years Bun Boy in Baker, CA, turned into a Bob's Big Boy. It remained as such for a few years and then went the way of the do do bird. That building is vacant now, at the base of the thermometer, which finally works again.

My very first job (not counting working for my dad) was at a Big Boy.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

Ever see the movie American Graffiti.
The cars driving in a circuit downtown?
We had that in my city in 1965, I was
there in a car with hundreds of other
teens every Fri and Sat night. Huge
amount of fun.

At the bottom end of the circuit was
Bob's BB. It was open till 3am and
jam packed with kids at the outdoor
area where the car hops would take
your order. I always got a slimjim and
onion rings. Huge fat onion rings.

I don't think I ever had more fun than
in those days. Mainly because I was
young and dumb.

Yet they say sexual activity is at an
all time low in Japan. I don't get it.
