I can't let this one go. 20+ years in Las Vegas, pretty much the 2nd hottest city after Phoenix, and the heat was brutal? Was it just more the humidity or something else? Phoenix killed me but after just the second year I was a bit used to it. Really used to it at night, as if the sun was not beating on me 100F there was doable. The President is a fink. |

odiousgambit Member since: Oct 28, 2012 Threads: 154 Posts: 5098 | Starlings in particular make an ugly sound, so I would vote for some other kind of blackbird. In fact I don't think of grackles making nice sounds like that either. I guess you can vouch for these in your video being a black bird? starling: https://birdsna.org/Species-Account/bna/species/eursta/introduction this starts with grackles, note you can go on to others: https://birdsna.org/Species-Account/bna/species/comgra/introduction I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

I can take the dry heat far more than the 80% humidity in TX. I feel like I can't even breathe. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I think it depends on what part it is. Where I was I did not notice much humidity. Houston is probably a killer. The President is a fink. |

petroglyph Member since: Aug 3, 2014 Threads: 25 Posts: 6227 | We have a lot of Grackles around here and the flock with cowbirds. They are both predatory invasive species and steal the nests and eggs of other birds. At least the Grackles sound cool when you can't see them, they sound like you are in Africa with the loud cawing. The Starlings are an absolute nuisance, and steal the grain ranchers put out for their livestock. If you watch them fly, it looks like their tailfeathers are turned 90* up and down instead of side to side. The last official act of any government is to loot the treasury. GW |

It was the humidity. Plain and simple. I was happy to be back in Vegas today by comparison. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |
