However, I doubt I can spare the time and my income isn't what it used to be.

I don't know what the highest altitude is where you have slept for the night, but you obviously need time if you are going to climb above 6000 meters.

South Base Camp at Everest: 5,364 m
Whitney Trail Camp is at 3,700 m , in a rocky, often windy, alpine basin.

There is a day hike at 3,832 metres at the Christ the Redeemer of the Andes near the entrance to the park.

I figure if you are just killing time in a little village, it would be cheaper in the Andes than in the Himalayas.

Plus flying to Mendoza Argentina on Copa is a whole lot less money and time than flying to Asia
6h 29m McCarran Intl. (LAS) to Tocumen Intl. (PTY)
6h 42m Tocumen Intl. (PTY) to Governor Francisco Gabrielli Intl. (MDZ)

It's a lot less time to fly to Anchorage, but I don't know what it costs to just spend time at altitude near Denali
2h 40m McCarran Intl. (LAS) to Seattle - Tacoma Intl. (SEA)
3h 37m Seattle - Tacoma Intl. (SEA) to Ted Stevens Anchorage Intl. (ANC)

That would be the hut on Iztaccihuatl at 4,600 meters (Wikipedia).

I'm not really debating between the Himalayas and the Andes. The Andes is way higher on my list.

Wow! that is even higher than the summit of Mount Whitney (4421 meters). I had trouble sleeping in a loft at Breckenridge Ski Resort 2940 meters.

Christ the Redeemer statue: 3832 meters above sea level
Plaza Francia: 4200 meters above sea level (trekking diversion)
PLAZA DE MULAS BASE CAMP 4300 meters above sea level
Camp Canada: 4910 meters above sea level
Camp Nido de Condores: 5380 meters above sea level (this camp has a Patrol of Park Rangers)
Camp Colera: 5870 meters above sea level
Aconcagua summit: 6960.8 meters

Everest Base Camp 5335 meters above sea level

I don't know, Wizard. I mean I wouldn't do it, so can't say I blame you. But are you really too old??

A Chinese double-amputee who lost his feet to frostbite in a previous effort to scale Mount Everest is among the first group of climbers to summit the world’s tallest mountain this year.

Xia Boyu, 69, conquered Everest early Monday on his fifth attempt, ending a 43-year battle with the 29,029-foot giant, AFP reported.
Xia was almost not even allowed to take on the mountain again. The Nepali government recently introduced a ban on double amputee and blind climbers from summiting its mountains. The move was overturned by Nepal’s supreme court in March on the basis that it discriminated against disabled people, leaving Xia free to once again pursue his dream.

That is just one of many impediments that I listed before. If you guys want to start up a collection for about half a million dollars to fund my trip, I'll do my part and give it my best shot.

In other news, getting back to the Pikes Peak challenge, I did a 12-lap training ride on Sunday, which achieved about 5400 feet of elevation gain. I could have kept going but had a lunch to get to. I'm thinking of trying to do a ride with 10,000 feet of elevation gain as part of my training.

Yes, that is definitely on my list. I am pretty good at altitude, so think my chances of success are at least 50/50. There is a total eclipse cutting through Chile and Argentina next year. That would be the perfect time. However, I doubt I can spare the time and my income isn't what it used to be.

I know one way to get to try and climb Aconcagua.... marry me.... then divorce me! My ex has tried twice but due to tough weather conditions was unable to summit either time.

That had me laughing out loud.

Waste of time and money, it's just a huge
ego trip. So you can say you did it.

I'd say that is worth the effort and half a million dollars.
