This place might work, although most people rent bicycles with fat tires to ride down the mountain. https://www.bikepikespeak.com/frequently-asked-questions |

Fluorescent tents, discarded climbing equipment, empty gas canisters and even human excrement litter the well-trodden route to the summit of the 8,848-metre (29,029-foot) peak. "It is disgusting, an eyesore," Pemba Dorje Sherpa, who has summited Everest 18 times, told AFP. "The mountain is carrying tonnes of waste." As the number of climbers on the mountain has soared -- at least 600 people have scaled the world's highest peak so far this year alone -- the problem has worsened. https://www.yahoo.com/news/mount-everest-high-altitude-rubbish-dump-033148000.html If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Wizard Administrator Member since: Oct 23, 2012 Threads: 239 Posts: 6095 | Sorry guys, but I never even got started on the Pike's Peak bike climb. However, I'm proud to say I did summit the state high points in Colorado and New Mexico. Here is a picture from Mount Elbert CO. The reason? There is a combination: 1. I was sore from Mount Elbert. Biking Pikes Peak would have had to be the following day. 2. Scattered thunderstorms were predicated that day. The weather turned out okay in Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek but the skies did look threatening in the morning, when I was planning to do it. It wouldn't have surprised me if it rained at higher elevations. 3. I admit I knew this before, but the very narrow shoulder always gave me pause. I'm big on big safety and try to stay on bike paths, or at least bike lanes, as much as possible. 4. The Pikes Peak railway had closed for the 2018 season and probably permanently. This would have induced even more car traffic. I feel kind of the fool after all this training and build up. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

A fall in your 50's is not like a fall in your 20's. When I had my barn built, the guys putting on the roof were early 20's. They fell off twice that I know of, and bounced right back up. Try that at 53 and let me know how it goes. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

So you reached peak elevation in not just one, but two states. A normal "mea culpa". Sorry guys, but I never even got started on the Pike's Peak bike climb. Massive beer chugging at high altitudes meant I couldn't wake up. |

Thank you! This was my 6th peak above 14,000 feet, including one above 17,000. The night before I slept in Twin Lakes CO, which is at 9,200 feet. As usual, climbing this high is much more challenging, but nothing I can't handle. South Mount Elbert Trail -- Forest Service information. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |
