The average age of a Playmate of the Year, 23.5 years, is slightly higher than that of a Playmate of the Month, 22.4 years.
In 1964, at the age of 18, Donna Michelle became the youngest PMOY ever. Jo Collins (1965) and Christa Speck (1962) both were 19.

Sharon Clark (1971), Karen McDougal (1998) and Ida Ljungqvist (2009) became PMOY at the age of 27. Only three women became PMOY in their 30s: Tiffany Fallon (2005) at 31, Kathy Shower (1986) at 33, and Eugena Washington (2016) at 31.

Thanks for the research, Paco. The youngest playmate, miss January 1958, was just 16 (source). She lied about her age. Back then they didn't show much anyway, by our standards. I probably have that issue.

For some reason I always remember this centerfold that came out when I was age 16. In hindsight it was the not the first centerfold to show full frontal, but the first to show full nudity not obscured by an object in a fun photo (not all glamour). Of course glamour meant very little to me at age 16, but the thought of a naked gorgeous girl in a baseball jersey had a huge impact on my 16 year old brain.

Which year and month was that? When I was a kid my father had a stash of about 20 Playboys in his office. It was not difficult to raid. In fact, I didn't even need to sneak around, my parents were very liberal about such things. It would have been issues from the mid 70's. The one issue I liked the best had a pictorial on the girls of the Ivy League. I've always liked those college girl pictorials ever since but that Ivy League one will always be first in my ... heart. I have a copy of it here somewhere.

Centerfolds were usually not playful poses. When I was a teenager, that one meant a lot more than most because I really couldn't see sitting around and drinking brandy by the fire. Sandy was also only three years older than me.
