I think I talk about this topic enough to warrant a thread about it. My latest climb was Mount Baker, Washington, which I did last Sunday and Monday. Here is a video I just finished on the climb.

The question for the poll is which peaks have you climbed?

Other. And smaller.

And other smaller ones in the Adirondack Park in northern New York.

I've always thought they call something a "mountain" on the east coast too easily. The high point of Arizona is 12,633 feet high and still only called a peak.

I had sex with a really fat girl
once, that was the only peak
I ever climbed.

Why did you need a guide, you
have done so much climbing
that you have experience. It
couldn't have been cheap. Plus
there were other people along
the whole route to ask for help
if you needed it.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

Where is Stone Mountain? Only one I've climbed.

Was watching a climbing expedition last night and learned that lightning is one of the frequent causes of death of climbers.

That is one of your best jokes ever.

Mount Baker may have looked rather tame in the video but it has a lot of crevasses (my spelling stinks). First, you need a guide to know how to get over them or around them. Granted, I could have followed another group who knew what they were doing, but I had no idea at the time how often it gets climbed. Second, if one fell in a crevasse, you need an expert to both arrest the fall and get the person who fell out. If I hiked by myself, I'd likely die if I fell in one. I could have tried to get my local hiking club to do it as a group but they seem to prefer stuff in the south west.

I would have loved to show some hiking across narrow ices bridges over crevasses, but it would have been dangerous to fuss with a camera while you were a wrong step from possible death.

That's outside Atlanta. I climbed it too some 25 years ago. Don't know why so many people take the gondolas to the top when it is such a fun climb. Martin Luther King mentions Stone Mountain in his I Have a Dream speech.

Yup. I believe it. My guide also said 80% of fatalities happen on the descent, which I could also see. Weather tends to get worse as the day goes on, including lightning storms being more likely.

My guide asked me this trivia question: Which state gets the most lightning strikes?

I believe it is Florida, closely followed by Michigan, because of the number of people who stay outside golfing near a thunderstorm.

You don't have the head mounted GoPro
anymore?
