The Democratic Socialists of America (I looked it up) believe in: having some industries controlled by the government, such has health care and utilities are against capitalism are for businesses being owned by the workers. https://www.npr.org/2018/07/26/630960719/what-you-need-to-know-about-the-democratic-socialists-of-america I do not think it is one of their plans to form a "socialist government" or "socialist states" such as China, Cuba, Vietnam, but instead be a more "socialistic" nation such as Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, Belgium. However I still think what happened in Venezuela was because of a corrupt, dictatorial central government, not because of socialism. If you want an example of a successful socialist nation, see China. China is also strongly communist, though, which is more about the living conditions and individual wealth of the citizens than socialism is. Hopefully the DSA will be saying things more like "I want us to be more like Canada" or "I want us to be more like the Netherlands" rather than "I want us to be more like China" "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." No. Not. Never been. China is a state capitalist economy transiting to full, private capitalism. Socialism means democratic workers control of the economy from the workplace right up to the top. China does not have workers control, nor did it ever. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

China is still third world in many ways. The coasts have a wealthy class. The interior is poor as dirt. The President is a fink. |

Some of the interior cities have grown in wealth. By the end of 2017 in China, 40.6% of the total population lived in rural areas, a dramatic decrease from 74% in 1990. Rural China at 40% is still larger than the entire population of the EU. |

And others got people living on $2 a day. Don’t let the shiny wrapper fool you. China has her own deep issues. The President is a fink. |

I don't believe that is even close anymore AZD. Minimum wage in the poorest part of the country is 11 Yuan/hr which is a little over $1.50US / hr. The Chinese middle class is much larger in actual numbers than the US middle class. I am not a big supporter of how China is run but we don't need to make up shit to pretend they are still where they were 50 years ago. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." To sum up everything evenbob has shot me down on, "every good socialist" has nothing to do with the "socialist" movement in America, and I put that in quotes, because even though it is the same word, it means something quite different from what happened in Venezuela and is happening in Cuba. Apparently China has nothing to do with it. "Everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not to his own facts." Daniel Patrick Moynihan |

The "socialist movement in America" is basically a group of greedy and lazy people who think that someone is stealing from them and getting rich. They say "SEE THE NORDIC COUNTRIES, IT CAN WORK!" They never mention the disaster it becomes everywhere else. They never notice that where it does "work" that is often because of oil wealth feeding the system. They do not see all the suffering. They do not see people lined up to buy basic consumer goods if they are available at all, often they are not. They just think they are getting rid of "greed." They believe their college professors who keep saying socialism "would work if the right people were in charge!" Or that "it didn't work because of people like EB and AZD!" Sadly, most societies keep drifting to the concept. Then they fall, and capitalist societies are their masters. The President is a fink. |

Socialism looks great on paper, that's what they're saying. Problem is, it doesn't take into account that some people are massive over achievers and will always succeed in a spectacular fashion and that far too many are lazy and will never succeed. You will always end up with capitalism as the result. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
