Groucho, Bob Hope, who he saw in the war, Bing, Jack Benny, George Burns, Milton Berle, Jackie Gleason. I'm going through the same thing. Chevy, Steve Martin, Dan Akroyd. Leno and Letterman, Billy Crystal, David Spade, Martin Short, all of Monty Python, Dennis Miller, on and on. They're all 60's and 70's, when you see them all they talk about is the past. Now I know why this made my dad sad, Hope and Crosby and Jack Benny were young when he was young. Steve Martin was supposed stay young forever. Even Seinfeld is 64.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Miriam Margolyes is a British character actress in her 70's, meeting a rapper from East LA, "Will I Am". Of course she has no idea who he is and as she points out she doesn't meet many black people. She is most famous for her one woman show, Dicken's Women. Miriam is trying to correct Will's diction. The two characters are very funny as Miriam is clearly charmed by Will and Will seems like he met a throwback to the Days of the Empire. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | More and more I'm my old man. He always kept every scrap of wood, every screw and nail, because you would need them some day. In all the work I've been doing on the house, I'm using stuff I kept from 35 years ago, 20 years ago. Even found some baby food jars my dad had in the 50's full of screws and washers and nuts and bolts. Good to have when you need them. Lots of dads had one of these baby food jar racks in the 50's. Every dads garage I went into had one. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Yesterday I removed 30 screws that had been in place for 40 years. I put them all in the can of screws I have. Throwing them away would be unthinkable. It's not the cost of new screws, it's the availability of them when you need some. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Evenbob Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 146 Posts: 25011 | Found a letter my dad wrote me 40 years ago, when I lived in Calif. He was 69 and lamenting how he was going to be 70 next year. I'm 69 now, but my dad always seemed older than his age. He was always an old guy to me. He was 35 when I was born, he had a family before ours. Men got married young in the 1940's, so all my friends and classmates dads were in their late 30's when they were 15, my dad was an ancient 50. It's different now, men are getting married later. Lots of older dads these days. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

It is as much women waiting. Many think they can "have it all" and wait. Then many spend a fortune as they passed by their prime childbearing years by the time they decide they want to be a mother. All of adulthood is delayed these days. People are in their late 20s before they even get a "real" job in many cases. The President is a fink. |

The doofus dingbat Cortez, the new congress person, the only job she ever had was a part time bartender. She's 29 and this is her first 'real' job. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
