$9000?? Oh my dear god. I paid $125
for a new mattress last year and hated
it. I have a single bed because I sleep
alone.

Good grief, you think I will live longer than I think I will.

About $5500. Can't get smaller than a double, but as no woman will put up with me I saved a few bucks with single controls.

I use a memory-foam mattress of the hardest available firmness. It's great. It was rather expensive for a piece of foam, but I have no regrets. I suffer a lot of sleeping problems, but at least can't blame the mattress any longer. It also helped with back issues, but exercise helped about 10 times more.

I am intrigued by EB's inclined mattress idea. I've camped lots of times and when on a slope, prefer to have my head high. It seems more comfortable.

It's important to have your head above
your heart. Too much blood stimulates
the brain and keeps you awake. And
sleeping on your back keeps your organs
from shifting like they do when sleeping
on your side. An incline gets rid
of most nightime breathing problems.

Just use pillows, costs nothing to try it.
I never have any morning aches and
pains, and never change position because
I'm always comfortable. If you can make
it work it will change your sleep life.

I also wear a Breathe Rite strip on my nose
and wear the construction noise reduction
muffs we discussed a few years ago.

I used shims to elevate the head of the bed, but as far as I can tell "organ shifting" has never bothered me. However that organ grinder and his monkey outside my window all night is driving me crazy.

I suggest, rather than "one cheap trick, chiropractors hate him" testament, is to just experiment yourself. I don't have a headboard, so while I lie with a pillow, I lose it to the floor as soon as I'm out. I haven't slept with one in well over a year, perhaps as many as 3.

I don't want to credit it with too much as I've made several lifestyle changes during that time, but I'm out every day within 2 min, never wake up, wake at 0530 sans alarm easily, and actually feel invigorated instead of typically groggy.

And you're what, 30 something? Wait till
you're 50 or 60 something and get back
to us. You got changes coming you can't
even imagine in your 30's.

It must be nice to be a youngster. By 5:30am I have been to the bathroom at least three times since going to sleep.
