.....they were. So much better.

Yup with Obama, the US had respect all over the planet. Right now we as a country are the laughing stock of the world due to Trump. Its like Dangerfield, we get no respect

In your mind only, it certainly
wasn't better in the real world.

In my opinion "Crazy Bernie" works better than "Socialist Bernie".

The word "crazy" is crazily overused in English. "Crazy Bernie" shows no creativity. I like socialist Bernie better, although Bernie would agree with it.

Both houses of the New Jersey state legislature have approved a bill that requires presidential candidates appearing on the November ballot to release their tax returns. Chris Christie is expected to veto it. (It's probably a coincidence that the name of the bill is the Tax Returns Uniformly Made Public Act.)

Since Trump doesn't need New Jersey's electoral votes to win, it doesn't matter for 2020. But if Pennsylvania or Ohio or Michigan or Wisconsin pass a similar bill? Trump is screwed.

Chris Christie is no longer governor of NJ.

As much as I dislike Trump
I am against releasing your tax returns as a requirement to run for President.
It should be voluntary.
Let the people decide with their vote.
If the people want somebody to be President that has not released their return, so be it.

SCOTUS would probably throw such a bill out as being unconstitutional as there is no requirement that a POTUS show his tax returns and this would de facto be a state adding requirements.

Why would anyone want to run for public office when every detail of your life is to be opened up to the vomitoriam of internet trolls.

That was my first thought as well, but I think it would hold up. States have wide berth to make their own ballot rules. Each state has it's own hurdles to restrict third party ballot access, but the constitution says nothing about parties let alone restrictions based on party affiliation.
