This T-Mobile mini set top box was spotted at the FCC. It differs from an Amazon Fire set top box in that it does not have "optical audio output" jack, or a USB input jack and it has an extra "HDMI input" jack.

Neither box has the older F type jack for a coaxial cable.

T-Mobile may be using the HDMI input jack to allow you to cable your phone to the set top box via an MHL cable. The ethernet port may be for an optional back up way to watch TV when you don't have your phone.

T-Mobile seems to be considering a major push to compete with cable and satellite for television delivery. Perhaps they will buy a smaller media company like AMC Networks which owns AMC, IFC, Sundance tv, WE tv, and 50% of BBC America.
