Polk lived only 103 days past the end of his presidency on Mar 4, 1849. Post WWII Lyndon B. Johnson presidency end on Jan 20, 1969 and he lived an additional 4 years, 2 days. Eight presidents have died in office and had no post presidency. The most improbable bit of presidential trivia is that three of the five founding fathers: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Monroe all died on 4 July. I suspect "fake news". |

On the other hand, just looking at the age at death isn't given me any inspiration, so I'll stick with Calvin C. I'm Still Standing, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah [it's an old guy chant for me] |

You get peppered with this POTUS trivia from time to time on the news. George Washington died less than 3 years after leaving office which has led some to speculate that he didn't really feel honor bound to leave the presidency after two terms, but instead he just was sick. The 2nd and 3rd president both died on 4th of July 1826. But John Adams finished his only term 8 years before Thomas Jefferson finished his second term, so John Adams actually set the record for "length of post presidency" which held for over a century. |
