The fantasy life you live in never ceases to amaze. Glad I don't live in your world. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Some of us might read it because we want to have opinions based upon facts even when they don't agree with our own prejudices. Others don't want facts to get in the way of any of their preconceived ideological positions and only read sources that enforce their own prejudices. Nobody is right in all their beliefs 'ams' you will be stronger and more believable if you learn when you are wrong. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." Benjamin Franklin |

Standard spelling in English has peculiarities. One of the most obvious to me is in the following three pairs of words: conceit / conceive deceit / deceive receipt / receive The spelling "receit" is considered an obsolete form of receipt. The unpronounced p was later inserted to make the word appear closer to its Latin root, but it wasn't inserted in the other two words. I understand that Daniel Webster really struggled with this one when writing his dictionary. Another peculiarity is the following eight words. The last four letters are pronounced identically (ʃən) in all eight words, but 7 of them are spelled one way, and the 8th has a different spelling action /ˈæk.ʃən nation /ˈneɪʃən station /ˈsteɪʃən mention /ˈmɛnʃən section /ˈsɛkʃən direction /dəˈɹɛk.ʃən information /ˌɪnfəɹˈmeɪʃən musician /mjuˈzɪʃən Then we also have words with the exact same four letters that are pronounced differently equation /ɪˈkweɪʒən Periodically there are discussions about standardizing English spelling and/or unifying British and American spelling. |
