Per the Owner of the firm, I am NOT ALLOWED to stand up for her - the co-counsel was IN CHARGE - the Owner admonished me to NOT speak up |

I guess doctors and lawyers live by a different code of ethics. When involved in the care of a patient, I always represent the patient first, even if it is against what the surgeon wants. I would think that your primary responsibility is to the client, even if it means not taking orders from the co-counsel. Then let them fire you if need be, with you knowing you did the right thing by your client. |

MY concern is always the client |

Then help me out here. Why did you not speak directly to YOUR client and tell her you disagree with what co-counsel was doing? It seems by leaving her you were more concerned with your job, and not her representation. Am I missing something? |

The client knew my feelings and we did speak during the time co-counsel was speaking with opposing counsel - she agreed 100% with me and I told her I would speak on her behalf - then was told to shut up by co-counsel - who is the Owner's proxy |

aceofspades Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 83 Posts: 2019 | After much consideration and many long conversations with friends, I have decided to give my notice tomorrow. Maybe they escort me out? Maybe they already plan to fire me for leaving Court the other day? Maybe they beg me to stay? (lol) Maybe they say, thanks for the notice, please get your files together and summarize them for the next attorney over the next two weeks? Who knows, but, my sanity will not be sacrificed on the altar of this firm As always, I welcome DT's honest thoughts... and strategies on how to give the two week's notice...blaze of glory? calm and professional? humble and thankful (but then, what if the Owner asks for a brutally honest take on why I am giving notice)? I want to thank DT for being here as a sounding board throughout this situation - will definitely fill DT in on what happens |

So you have something solid lined up that will replace this job? If you don't, what the heck are you doing. You say you live pay check to pay check. Those will stop coming if you just up and quit with no place to work next week. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I have an interview lined up but, regardless, I am losing it mentally and cannot stay |

Reminds me of the Modern Family ep where Mitchell was being mistreated in his law firm so he up and quit on the spot. Then when he got home and realized what he did, he panicked. It ended up he was out of work for months and his partner had to get a job to support them. But that's a TV show, real life is much different, everything works out OK in real life when you quit a job without a rock solid new job lined up. Sarcasm intended, Swallow your pride and quit when you have another job secured. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
