I think the day will eventually come, perhaps within a generation, when planes can be flown like drones.

One large solar fare from them all coming down at the same time. Won't catch me on one.

You would think so, but then there are rule changes that seem to be going the other direction like a 6 fold increase in hours required to be a co-pilot.

Long before you give up the pilot, you have to be able to give up the co-pilot.

FAA Boosts Aviation Safety with New Pilot Qualification Standards July 10, 2013
WASHINGTON — In a final rule to be published soon, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced today that it is increasing the qualification requirements for first officers who fly for U.S. passenger and cargo airlines. The rule requires first officers — also known as co-pilots — to hold an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, requiring 1,500 hours total time as a pilot. Previously, first officers were required to have only a commercial pilot certificate, which requires 250 hours of flight time.

Ralph Nader, who has been highly critical of Boeing because of the loss of his Grand-Niece views it as Boeing having assumed the computer would always be right and should over-ride a pilot's desires. Yes pilots can be drunk or poorly trained or simply wrong, but they can also be right.

Ethiopian crew restarted software which doomed plane to an immediate plunge at non-recoverable attitude.

As expected FAA deemed wiring bundles to be non-compliant due to overheating, abrasion-risk and risk of electronic "cross-talk". Also as expected Boeing's executives yawn and say that new wiring problem will not add to the Return-To-Service Time for the Max.
