I met an older man, an executive, who gruffly introduced himself as Kermit lastname. I felt sorry for him, and I was surprised he hadn't switched to his middle name. |

For that exact reason I gave ordinary middle names to all my kids. In case they decide at some point they don't care for their first name. Personally, I can't get away with that because my middle name is Whitney, and every Whitney I've ever known was female. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Did you ask your folks why they gave you the name? The first thing that comes to my mind is Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48. |

Good guess. That is where my parents first met. I climbed it, for the second time, last summer. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

miplet Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 8 Posts: 975 | I think Whitney is one of the names girls stole from boys. I go by Bobby. My middle name is Robert. It's not that I don't like my first name (Adam), it's I've always been called Bobby since I can remember. Whitney the Wizard. It has a ring to it. Josiah Dwight Whitney was the namesake for the mountain. As a given name for males it seems to have been more popular around WWI. |
