First of all, I don't see how this law restricts a gay pride parade.

Secondly, assuming I understood the law correctly, it's only unlawful to appear in public as a paid performer in drag; it's not unlawful to simply be in drag and also be performing--you just can't be getting paid to do so. The law would do nothing to prevent people marching in the gay pride parade (for free) from being in drag if they wish.

So, it's a bit more nuanced than what you're repping, but that's not unusual. I still agree that it's a ridiculous law for the reasons that I have already stated.

You dont understand the law correctly
In fact I'm shocked how poorly written this law is
Lets go to the actual source so you can read it yourself

SENATE BILL 3
By Johnson
SB0003
000187
- 1 -
AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 7,
Chapter 51, Part 14, relative to adult-oriented
performances.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:
SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-1401, is amended by adding
the following language as a new subdivision:
"Adult cabaret performance" means a performance in a location other than an
adult cabaret that features topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, strippers,
male or female impersonators who provide entertainment that appeals to a prurient
interest, or similar entertainers, regardless of whether or not performed for consideration;
SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 7-51-1407, is amended by adding
the following language as a new subsection:
(c)
(1) It is an offense for a person to engage in an adult cabaret
performance:
(A) On public property; or
(B) In a location where the adult cabaret performance could be
viewed by a person who is not an adult.
(2) Notwithstanding § 7-51-1406, this subsection (c) expressly:
(A) Preempts an ordinance, regulation, restriction, or license that
was lawfully adopted or issued by a political subdivision prior to the
effective date of this act that is in conflict with this subsection (c); and
- 2 - 000187
(B) Prevents or preempts a political subdivision from enacting and
enforcing in the future other ordinances, regulations, restrictions, or
licenses that are in conflict with this subsection (c).
(3) A first offense for a violation of subdivision (c)(1) is a Class A
misdemeanor, and a second or subsequent such offense is a Class E felony.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect July 1, 2023, the public welfare requiring it, and
applies to prohibited conduct occurring on or after that date

How do you define an "exotic dancer" ?????? Isnt Elaine from Seinfeld an exotic dancer :-)
Whats wrong with Male or female impersonators.????????
Whats a "purient interest"???????????????
Seems to me a cop whos a religious nut can use these vague terms to arrest a parade performer on public property where a kid might see him or her or it
Its a terribly written law but there it is
You can arrest parade performers in drag
That was the intent of the law
Notice they made sure the effective date is before the big parade
Just about all TN bills have a substantial delay before enforcement
Not this one

Blame ABC; they linked to the House Bill which can be found here:

https://www.capitol.tn.gov/Bills/113/Amend/HA0011.pdf

In the article that you cited. If you read the House Bill, you could see where it seems to state that there must be consideration, of one kind or another, in order for the bill to apply:

Quote:
"Entertainer" means a person who provides:
(A) Entertainment within an adult-oriented establishment, regardless of
whether a fee is charged or accepted for entertainment and regardless of
whether entertainment is provided as an employee, escort as defined in § 7-51-
1102, or an independent contractor; or
(B) A performance of actual or simulated specified sexual activities,
including removal of articles of clothing or appearing unclothed, regardless of
whether a fee is charged or accepted for the performance and regardless of
whether the performance is provided as an employee or an independent
contractor;

See, so HB9 wouldn't have applied if you weren't getting paid to do it.

Anyway, sorry about that, but ABC should link to the thing that was actually signed.

There's obviously nothing wrong with male or female impersonators and I share your disdain for the law. I hope someone takes this shizz all the way to the Supreme Court as it is a blatant criminalizing of Free Speech.

(Removed as, rereading it, I could see how it could be seen as an insult to the journalist. I was only intending to make fun of myself with that joke.)

I also messaged the journalist who wrote the article on STUPID Twitter, which I never use, because she seems active there, but not on Facebook. The E-Mail listed on the journalist's Facebook page does not work.

The only reason I am not using her name is because I am talking about her potentially having made a citation mistake.

As you can see:

https://abcnews.go.com/US/public-drag-performances-restricted-tennessee/story?id=97605266

The article now reads SB3 and HB9 and links to SB3.

Oh, she read my Facebook message a half hour ago. Good enough, I guess. No thank you, as yet. How rude.

Perhaps I am just seen as a minor irritation that had to be dealt with.

Cool
Just checked the article
It amazes me how something this poorly written gets passed in the TN legislature.
The law is complete BS and written to satisfy the kuckledraggers on the right that have a livid hatred for gays.
No doubt Tiny D(Disantis) is looking at this for FL. Anything to get the knuckledraggers into his tent.

Stewart was interviewing Oklahoma's Nathan Dahm, who is proposing looser gun control, to encourage more people to own them.

“You want to ban drag show readings to children. Why?”, he says, as the pair get into a debate.

“The government does have a responsibility to protect …children", Dahm responds, to which Stewart claps back: "What’s the leading cause of death among children in this country? And I’m gonna give you a hint: it’s not drag show readings."

Wanted to fact check Stewart
It's shocking
Firearm related injuries are now the leading cause of death for children in the USA
Wow
For so long it's been car accidents
That's no longer the case as we live in a gun filled country

Joe Harding, the now-former Florida Republican lawmaker who authored the "Don't Say Gay" bill could face up to 35 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday afternoon to federal felony fraud charges in a scheme to obtain $150,000 in COVID-19 relief funds, according to Florida Politics‘ publisher Peter Scorsch.

Harding, 35, was a construction project manager who started his own lawn care company. He quickly became a right-wing darling after his anti-LGBTQ legislation, officially the Parental Rights in Education Act, was embraced by Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis, who signed it into law.

Harding was charged in a December federal indictment with six counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements in his plot to obtain $150,000 in COVID funds. He resigned from the legislature the following day. He originally pled not guilty.
