They certainly sell a variety of quality's here throughout the year. These 4 for a buck ones are Mexican and questionable quality.

What is causing the ones that are blackish inside to be blackish, or bad spots?

Air is the enemy of the avo. It
starts to spoil almost immediately
when exposed to air. If it ripens
too long it starts to rot and turns
black inside, or dark brown.

"The problem is, squeezing avocados leaves brown and bruised flesh hidden under the skin which can be a disappointing discovery for the buyer who might have paid an eyewatering $5 for one fruit."

What do you look for when picking them out?

We mostly get the thick alligator skinned
Hass here. Once in awhile I see the thin
skinned smooth avo's and I avoid them
because they spoil easily. I get them when
they're almost ripe and a couple days later
they go in the fridge where they keep for
weeks. I have 21 in there right now.
