That's what they teach millennials in
public schools now, that he was
murdered by religious 'extremists'.

Well, he was, so......

https://www.city-journal.org/html/why-theo-van-gogh-was-murdered-10071.html

This is not a conspiracy, this is pretty commonly accepted.

In fact its generally the right wing that talks about this.... I see a lot of traditional cons talk about him in NeoCon settings...

I am not sure what the dispute is?

Or do you think the Muslims were encouraged by violent video games and marijuana, and not religious influence? .....

Look up Theodore Van Gogh, the filmmaker ..

So when you say 'Van Gogh', people
immediately know you don't mean
the painter, but Van Gogh nobody
has ever heard of? Really? And he
was the grandson of the artists
brother.

When people talk about the Van Gogh who was killed for insulting Islam, that is usually who people refer to.

This is pretty common knowledge....

I don't think The Painter was making many viral vids on Islam...

Where. Never heard of him. He's Dutch,
everything he did was in Dutch,. He
lived his whole life in the Netherlands.
I just mentioned Van Gogh to my wife
and she thought I meant the painter.
What's wrong with her.

Of course you probably worded in a way to sound like the painter...

Anyone who follows Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Christopher Hitchens (the late, did), Douglas Murray has heard of him.

Whenever you say "Van Gogh killed by Islamists" or "killed by religious extremists" most people know who you mean.

Nobody thinks of the painter as the one getting fatwas against him....

It's pretty common knowledge for people who study religious extremists, he is the prime example of violent ideology opposing art and free expression.... Sadly he is far from the only example.

Have you heard of Salman Rushdi (Sir Rushdie now, thankfully despite vehement Islamic protests)? He was an even earlier example, late 80s, published a book that inflamed the Islamic world....

Have asked 4 more people and
they had no idea what I was
talking about. My brother,
a friend in IA, my brother in
law, and an old classmate
friend. They never heard of
him. You mean 'most people'
in the Netherlands, I live in
the US.

Look up Theodore Van Gogh, the filmmaker who in the early 2000s was working with great Neoconservatives to document issues with Islam.
I beleive he was either the grandson or great grandson of the Van Godh you are speaking of.....

Normal people associate the name Van Gogh with Vincent, the 19th century impressionist who died by suicide in 1890. Not a distant cousin who was murdered in 2004 by a Muslim extremist.

Not when discussing religious extremists. He is usually prime example (along with the Fench Cartoonists) of religious extremists using violence and threats to dissuade free speech (and they suceeded with the French cartoonists at that paper whose name I am blanking on, but after the attacks they will no longer insult Islam).....

Islamic extremists have had a pattern since before I was born to use violence, threats, and Fatwahs to go after writers, artists, etc, who (often unintentionally) insult Islam.... Many quickly apologize and change their work to avoid the fate of Van Gogh....

Not when discussing .

Day 2 and not a single person
I've mentioned this to has any
idea what I'm talking about. Yet
you say 'everybody' knows this.
Do you live in the Netherlands
and think anything outside of
there is known in the rest of
the world?
