You're absolutely wrong. The most convincing arguments say that he was born in the spring or summer. First of all no Shepherds attended their flocks in December. Sheep didn't graze in December, it was cold in the middle of winter. And the Star of Bethlehem has been shown to be Venus and Jupiter coming together to be a bright light in the sky in the middle of the summer, not at the end of December. There are other clues and most Bible scholars today agree that the one thing they know is that Jesus was not born at the end of December. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I know you aren't really that interested in exploring this but you need to go back to Zechariah and when his temple duty began. We obviously know when this was. Comparing that with when Mary went to visit Elizabeth and how far along she was at that point puts us at the end of December. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

Speaking of shepherds, did you know the candy cane is supposed to represent the hooks shepherds use, to help remind kids of the story of Christmas. Sorry for the hijack. Carry on. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

Not in the fields they don't. I know you aren't really that interested in exploring this but: "The Bible itself tells us that December 25 is an unlikely date for His birth. Palestine is very cold in December. It was much too cold to ask everyone to travel to the city of their fathers to register for taxes. Also the shepherds were in the fields (Luke 2:8-12). Shepherds were not in the fields in the winter time. They are in the fields early in March until early October." And there is tons of stuff like this: "John the Baptist also helps us determine that December 25 is not the birth of Jesus. Elizabeth, John's mother, was a cousin of Mary. John began his ministry in the 15th year of Tiberius Caesar. The minimum age for the ministry was 30. As Augustus died on August 19, A.D. 14, that was the accession year for Tiberius. If John was born on April 19-20, 2 B.C., his 30th birthday would have been April 19-20, A.D. 29, or the 15th year of Tiberius. This seems to confirm the 2 B.C. date, and, since John was 5 months older, this also confirms an autumn birth date for Jesus." Lots of Xtion sites tell the actual truth, it's only your church that constantly tries to buffalo people to make the 'facts' fit their agenda. https://www.allaboutjesuschrist.org/was-jesus-born-on-december-25-faq.htm If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

My point is, so time is measured from Jesus birth, and the days of the week are named after Roman gods, so what. In the scheme of things it's meaningless. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I also understand why you want to downplay the significance of our years being determined by the life of Jesus but maybe you should just leave that one alone. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

I supplied the link, look again. Wanna hear what Bart Ehrman says about it? Sure you don't. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

FrGamble Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 67 Posts: 7596 | Oh I just read the link, still disagree. There is clear historical evidence of shepherds in the fields all year long, in particular around Bethlehem. I'd love to hear what Ehrman says but before you get too excited I need to let you know this is a personal belief of mine based on strong Biblical evidence and theological interpretation. The Church herself while celebrating Jesus's birth December 25th, does not claim that this is the absolute historical birthday. “It is with the smallest brushes that the artist paints the most exquisitely beautiful pictures.” ( |

No real mathematician says to go out to gamble by losing less. Similarly, what doctor says go out, and drink moderately? Lol. Mike has sold you all out to any casino that would pay him.
