Britain and Ireland are not Schengen countries and nonstop travel to Britain and Ireland is ~50% of nonstop to the Schengen countries. The next busiest TransAtlantic destinations are Turkey, Israel, and Russia Turkish Air now flies nonstop to 9 major US airports and a 10th, Newark, was scheduled to be added in two months. Schengen countries are roughly 24% of international air travel to the US with Canada and Mexico being 22%. Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan are 14% of travel (prior to virus) Do you think it made sense to block Shengen countries for 30 days? |

The ban is likely due to those countries officially having abolished all passport and all other types of border control at their mutual borders. Which is why it spread so rapidly in those countries. US clusters were seeded by European travelers. A week after Trump in January, restricted entry into the US from China, the Mayor of Florence suggested residents hug Chinese to 'fight racism'. Worked out really really well. |

I don't know if Britain, Ireland, Russia, Turkey, Israel, Egypt and Morocco are much better. Turkish Airlines flies to 9 US airports and was going to add a 10th (EWR) in two months. |
