Netflix launched 657 first-run original titles in 2019, up from 386 in 2018, according to new analysis from Omdia Channels & Programming Intelligence. Total first-run original hours were 2,769, compared to 1,537 in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 80%. The report analyses the factors behind this surge in programming and compares Netflix with streaming rival Amazon, new services from Apple and Disney, and premium channel brands HBO, Showtime and Starz.

The NY Times says there were 539 scripted television series in 2019. If you include reality shows, daytime dramas and children's series the number would swell to significantly more than 1,000.

Of which all but 8 or so were
absolute crap. Unless you're
certain people who can't tell
crap from non crap, they were
ecstatic.

But you could say that about the product of any media outlet. For instance:

FOX network used to have a lot of popular series since they began to broadcast in October 1986
The X-Files (1993–2002; 2016; 2018)
21 Jump Street (1987–90)
Ally McBeal (1997–2002)
Boston Public (2000–04)
House (2004–12)
Fringe (2008–13)
Bones (2005–17)
Married... with Children (1987–97)
Martin (1992–97)
The Bernie Mac Show (2001–06)

How many of FOX's current shows have you seen last year.

FOX Dramas
9-1-1
9-1-1: Lone Star
The Resident
Prodigal Son
The Moodys (6 episodes over 3 weeks)

FOX comedies
Last Man Standing
Outmatched

FOX Animated
The Simpsons (renewed)
Bob's Burgers
Family Guy
Bless The Harts (renewed)
Duncanville (renewed)

Zero. I don't watch TV other
than Food Network in real
time. Even Fox news I only
see on Youtube.
