You can lose 10-12 pounds a
month with just diet restriction
and no exercise.

Yes, this is true, if they are massively overweight.

A person with a healthy weight cannot lose 10-12 pounds a month without exercise.

Prisons are full of obese people because they eat a carb heavy diet.
Bread, waffles, corn, potatoes, rice, mac and cheese, pasta, sugary desserts, are all cheap for prisons to obtain.
Quite similar to the diet of many in The Poorhouse and those who wherever they live receive Food Bank materials or receive nutritional advice from the local university outreach service.
Rather understandable for MOW to want to maximize their budget too. Not good perhaps, but understandable.

You said this with a straight face? Jesus Christ...

I can’t believe I am saying this, but EB is 100% correct.

Exercise is not a significant component of weight loss. The amount of calories you burn in an hour at the gym is a drop in the bucket compared to your body’s base metabolism, even if you are just sitting around.

I am not saying don’t exercise, but If you want to lose weight you need to reduce the amount you consume. You can’t outrun your mouth.

Just eat less of it.

To balance things back out, I will disagree with EB here and say the amount of macronutrients - carbs, protein, etc. doesn’t really matter either. Figure out your base metabolism, eat less calories than that each day, and you will lose weight. It’s really that simple.

I used to be big on the low carb thing, and it has advantages. But I am now a big believer in calories in calories out.

I have lost 10lbs while we have been under martial law. Only exercise I do is walking, and that is way down as the weather has been awful. But no eating out, trying to mostly live off my prep stock in the pantry, and minimal eating after 4 PM or so.

Exercise helps, but it like in business it is the "top line" that drives things.

His later post, about not needing to exercise in order to lose weight, yes. Obviously. Simply drop caloric intake below sustenance level. Basic arithmetic.

That's not what I argued, though. "Exercise has nothing to do with weight loss, that's a fact". I changed three things March 1st... I started drinking Mountain Dew again, I quit smoking, and I went back to work. Down 26lbs in 50 days. Feel free to pick any combination of these changes and explain which one caused the weight loss and how.

Right, I am probably conflating two conversations.

I didn’t mean to say that you can’t lose weight from exercise. Flea has said for a long time that he can’t lose weight because for one reason or another he cannot exercise, and I’ve been trying to tell him he can lose weight through only changing how much he eats.

Quitting smoking usually correlates with gaining weight. I would assume going back to work had the biggest impact even if your diet became more unhealthy (drinking soda).

I don't know what kind of work you do, but assuming it involves physical activity or even just a lot of walking that is enough to make you lose weight after months of hardly doing anything. If your work consist of just sitting at a computer or a desk I would be shocked that you lost weight, especially with the other two factors (unless you ate far less since you are working, and not home snacking all day, just a hypothesis).

If I recall (I may be mixing you up with another mod) from a discussion on WOV you were/are? a casino surveillance officer, so I would imagine that would involve very little movement or physical activity from my understanding (I have a friend who is one). However, if you went back into a casino job as a security guard where you are nonstop walking all day and occasionally running, that would clearly explain why you lost weight?

Curious of the members status during this historic crisis.

Almost no (forced) change, still, 'cept still waiting for the gun shops to re-open. Been using the chaos to fuel some change, hence my focus on health and fitness lately. Down a bunch of weight, though still shy of goal, but haven't smoked a cig in 13 days, so that's tops.

Been getting killed at work, absolutely monstered. The complete and utter lack of proper mail is weird, too, what with all business closed and junk mail faltering. That has been the saving grace as parcels are to Xmas level and beyond. Some people need to be bludgeoned with a dictionary until they learn what "essential" means.

It's been real nice having a mandate keeping people away from me. It's been maddening to see how bitch-made my peers are. You would think living in the sticks with a bunch of rednecks would mean something, but no. Fragile as a pack of 11yr olds, the whole, entire lot.

Vids have been awesome as not a single person has any responsibilities anymore, and more are using them as their only socialization. Got a full team on NHL20, a full squad for Monster Hunter World, a full squad for Borderlands 2, and a hell of a Civ V battle filling in the gaps. Much better than trying to all group up the one full hour folks might have one day of the week.

Chorin's been nice, too. No stress of trying to fit them in inside a crickin' trip. Already fully recommissioned the boat, already expanded and adjusted the pond, already fixed the home electric problems it was too cold to address earlier. Already have the wheeler running, already have the truck (mostly) repaired, already have the back lot cleared out. Already cleared the bank, already got the spring burn done, already got the garden seeds sprouted, just hammering everything out so I can bust once the doors open back up. 2020 is gonna be a banger, apocalypse be damned.

Tragedy aside, I'm gonna really miss this. You subtract the pain and death, and this is as close to my ideal that I'll ever see again. Nobody churning for the sake of churning, families living and playing together, folks spending time on the activity of their choice, not their force. There's a certain connection of the community that simply does not exist under the normal state of bulls#$%.

I'll be sad to see it go.

Bugging in. At home, except for infrequent short trips to get bread and milk.
Not bored. Doing some chores, gardening and exercises. Getting dressed occasionally. Enjoying the start of our UK summer weather..
Missing certain hardware stores, but enjoying amazon prime.
Missing a few social activities and expecting to stay away from said activities till at least next year.
No significant change to income, though keeping an eye on the stock market for opportunities.
Watching international news and cringing.
