Dang, this thread is a blast from the past. But, I agree (I think, your original sentence in worded in a way that could be taken two different ways). When it comes to a business having safety requirements, you follow them or you leave, simple as that. Religion has no special preference when it comes to safety. Frankly it should not even have any special preference for non-safety related requirements (dress codes etc...), but I understand civil rights and all that.... For example, if an upscale restaurant or club wanted to ban all indoor headgear, I would have no problem with them forcing religious people to remove headgear or leave. This is a common dress code that is not a safety requirement, but a pure discretion/taste requirement. But, I still would fail to see how religion should give people leverage to ignore it. If somewhere's rules conflict with your religious beliefs don't give them business. But, this example is not even that nuanced, this is a pure range safety example. If you are told to remove a certain headgear at the range, you remove it, or immediately get escorted off. This is dealing with life and death, not a dress code. Personally I am pretty anti-headgear to begin with (including baseball caps), so I am pretty biased in favor of anti-headgear policies (X100000 if we are speaking indoors, nobody should have a hat on indoors). |

kenarman Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 14 Posts: 4515 | For those that don't think that getting tough on crime works. Seattle started jailing prolific offenders last year. Results a year in. "As a result, 142 of 168 high utilizers involved in the initiative this past year spent time in detention. Before the initiative, those identified as high utilizers averaged 6.3 misdemeanor criminal referrals to the City Attorney’s Office per year. During the initiative, that dropped to 2.7, mostly because they were in jail. “Holding high utilizers accountable for repeat criminal conduct is the game-changer that reduced their impact on the city,” according to the report. I think he is referring to nuisance type crimes, like shoplifting, purse snatching, etc…. Violent criminals still would have been locked up. It’s the petty criminal that uses the police station as a revolving door. |
