1995: A Los Angeles jury finds O.J. Simpson not guilty of the 1994 slayings of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman. (However, Simpson would be found liable for damages at a separate civil trial.)

2008: O.J. Simpson is found guilty of robbing two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint in a Las Vegas hotel room. (Simpson would later be sentenced to nine to 33 years in prison and ultimately granted parole in July 2017 and released in October that same year.)

79 years ago today the Japanese
bombed Pearl Harbor. My dad &
his 3 brothers all joined the Navy
in the mid and late 30's to escape
the Depression. They all fought in
the war and all survived. My dad
was discharged in 1944 because he
was hurt onboard. I regret I never
asked him about the war, he never
talked about it. All kinds of things
I want to ask him now, 20 years too
late.

I remember my Dad talking about getting an assignment to a docked Navy ship (he was Army) to do a “clean-up” detail. The ship had got a few bomb hits at sea, but was able to port. He said it was pretty grisly as they were bagging body parts. It wasn’t Pearl Harbor though.

My brother never talked about Vietnam.
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

I've read a number of times that
they don't talk about it because
they were scared crapless a lot
of the time and it's embarrassing.
I knew guys who were stationed
in Germany and Korea and Japan
during Vietnam and they never shut
up about all the stuff they did. The
Vietnam vets were the opposite.

When I was researching a gas well one of the people in the title chain died on December 7, 1941. Nothing to do with the attacks, just the day he died. I thought, "well, that's interesting" and went about my work.

So later I need to know who gets what in the intestate death. My boss asks me when he died. I say, "December 7, 1941" without hesitating. She says, "How do you remember that date so fast?"

Really?

Most people's woeful ignorance
about the past always amazes
me. All they see is their own
pitiful lives and nothing outside
it.

Thing is she was not an airhead. She let herself get pregnant before she got her BF to marry her but she knew her job.

A day that will live in infamy? I guess only for most of us.
