That being said, I figured I would post this video because I have never seen such a beautiful looking place. It is as if Disney designed not only the city but the natural beauty. Take a break from the election and enjoy! The President is a fink. |

I’ve been (nearly) everywhere, and as far as natural beauty, Iceland has it all. GREAT for a few week vacation in summer time. As far as living there.... permanently.... no way! VERY expensive! And just an hour or two of sunlight in the winter....Not as cold in winter as you’d think.... but still..... |

Met a beautiful woman from Iceland-----at a hotel bar in Binghamton, NY! She was over here working, might have been going to college I forget been 20 years. What was weird was she mentioned how the USA saved Iceland from becoming Hitler's breeding farm. I have had that kind of thing a couple times and it always feels weird. I tkk the Archie Bunker "ah, forget it!" line. But when someone says "your country saved us!" how does one react? The President is a fink. |

Fleastiff Member since: Oct 27, 2012 Threads: 62 Posts: 7831 | Its true... The USA was invited to occupy Iceland as a weather station prior to Germany seizing it. Denmark had its own problems and couldn't defend Iceland. No one could. So USCOAST GUARD vessels, then operating as an integral part of the Navy sailed inti Iceland and allowed Iceland officials to lower their flag.It was a move that had alot of public relations value, but Iceland was grateful and all US personnel were restricted to the base when bars were open so as to protect icelantic women. |

AZDuffman Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 135 Posts: 18136 | More on Portugal, focus on Lisbon. Mixed review, though makes me think look at doing English overseas. I looked at doing that in Japan but only made it to the second interview. If Bitcoin pops I could live such a lower key life. I like the "coffee culture" he talks about. I'd love to spend days doping out stocks and sports bets in a cafe there. The President is a fink. |

"If you want to hear god laugh, announce your plans." Al Swearengen One of the few really true things I've learned in life is, things never ever ever turn out just like you thought they would. They're kinda close, almost close, not even close, but never are they exactly like you planned and never ever better than you planned. This is why we enjoy rereading good books, and re-watching movies, and getting fast food. Those are all dependable things, we know exactly what we'll get every time. None of the places I moved to in my roaming years was anything like I thought it would be. It's always the little things that you never thought about that kill it. The biggest disappointment was yeah, great weather and surroundings, but everyone around you is caught up in their daily lives of work and school and raising kids and shopping and running errands and soon you're all caught up in it too and the newness has worn off and you realize all you did was drag the same old you to a place not much different from the old place and you're still the same old you. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I get all that. But if I can I would like to live at a place a few months to a year or so. When I moved to AZ it was a true adventure. NY was too much like where I came from to be an adventure. But now that I am older I want to see some things. The other side of it and the reason for this thread is I honestly feel we are central Europe about 1930 and the rest can go either way. I at least want to get my research done. And it is fun to research! Better than the crap on TV. The President is a fink. |

When you quit having positive experiences it is time to die. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

The best part of anything is the planning of it. The thing itself is always a letdown. I used to buy things for a living and sell them for more than I paid. The exciting part is always the auction, you don't know what you'll end up with. The boring part is the selling. Same with travel. Planning is fun and exciting. Actually doing it is mostly boring and mundane. I'm serious when I say I'd much rather look at an exotic place on Youtube than go there. In my Lazy-Boy I don't feel the hot sun on my neck or the humidity soaking my shirt. My feet don't hurt and I don't smell the garlic/curry body odor coming off the people around me. I didn't feel this way when I was 19, I was excited and optimistic about everything. I'm not 19 anymore.. That's what the orig Out of Towners movie is about. They have their trip to NYC planned down to every bite of food they'll take. Didn't quite work out.. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
