I worked with a few Anesthesiologists at the University of Iowa hospitals. I was there in the 1980's so probably not your friend. At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

Living at all, let alone well. I was there 45 years ago and a gallon of milk was $4, a loaf of bread $2. We existed on pancakes and mac cheese boxes. Spam was considered gourmet eating. Spam! Yuk. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Doesn't matter what you earn, you still have to deal with the in your face racism. The Asians were the worst. You better not confuse their race, they might kill you. And the native Hawaiians are the worst. Most of them live on the plentiful welfare benefits that includes housing, So a lot of them are drunk on Coors beer all day. "Go beach drink beer', you hear it all the time. They would hit on my GF right in front of me. I was a white piece of dog crap, they didn't even notice me. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

He said equivalent there was $600k in decent area. He wouldn’t starve of course, but he said he felt middle class financially, and second class citizen like Bob outlines. |

Whenever I see one of the sheep scold a perfectly healthy person for not wearing a mask, I cringe big time. We may end up being neighbors in Portugal!! |

Maybe leave sooner than later and start a fancy coffee stand? Or burger stand called "Big Kahuna?" The President is a fink. |

I dunno. This didn't impress me. Ongoing depressed economy, people working making less than the rest of EU. Ocean front means nothing to me. I lived in Santa Barbara for 7 years, you get used to the ocean view in weeks and don't even see it anymore. The places he drove thru were depressing, like those old Soviet countries. $95,000 USD for a crappy apartment is not 'cheap' to me, considering the country it's in. A nice place to visit, lots of tourists, I would never want to live there. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

Having moved to a couple places unfamiliar to me, my advice is to spend a month there before you move. Never move anyplace on the advice of others. For instance, I don't get along well with others in person, I find people mostly irritating. I live alone and mostly see nobody and that's just fine with me. We all have pet peeves like that. Test an area before you move there. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |
