I would like to wish each and every DT member a happy thanksgiving!

In celebration, here is some Thanksgiving trivia for you.

  1. Who was the first president to pardon a Thanksgiving turkey?
  2. What was the main course at the first Thanksgiving celebration?
  3. Which president made Thanksgiving a national holiday?
  4. What native American tribe celebrated the original Thanksgiving with the pilgrims?
  5. When is Thanksgiving celebrated in Canada?
  6. Which gender of turkeys gobble?
  7. Not counting “Black Friday,” what is officially celebrated the day after Thanksgiving?
  8. Who led the cause to make Thanksgiving a national holiday and what else is he/she famous for?
  9. Thanksgiving used to be celebrated on the last Thursday of October. Which president changed it to the fourth Thursday?
  10. Many countries have some kind of harvest celebration in late autumn. What is it called in the UK?

Please post your answers.

I didn't know this until today, but the White House Twitter page let members vote on which turkey to pardon. Here were the choices.

Note that Cob likes pickleball, puzzles, and bicycling, much like me. I'd have voted to pardon Cob easily.

The question for the poll is who would you vote to pardon?

Happy Thanksgiving!

I will guess at some of them.

1. I think it had something to do with WWII so I would think, FDR, Truman, or Eisenhower. I would say Eisenhower as a total guess as it sounds like something he would do.

6. Male.

7. I am not sure, but everywhere I have worked that this has been a holiday it is coded as "Day After Thanksgiving" on the official holiday chart and payroll. I don't know if this is the actual answer.

6. Male.

This is correct! Still looking for correct answers to the other 9.

No it's been going back to at least W. Bush, because I remeber after 9/11 it was a big thing because he pardoned two turkey named "liberty" and "freedom".
I am pretty sure he did every other year as well.

[spoiler] (Here is the only YouTube clip I can find of it, but I am pretty sure he answers the original question in the clip)

I hope everyone had a very happy Thanksgiving! There is always plenty to give thanks for, even this year. Thank you Wizard for this site and for your trivia, even though I don't know any answers.

I went to a restaurant which normally serves pretty good food, but they served pressed turkey. Blah!
