All three were single term Presidents and John and John Quincy Adams (father and son) were the first two presidents to serve single terms. Andrew Johnson was probably the most reviled POTUS in America's history, and is not shocking that he didn't want to go to his successors' inaugurations. Andrew Johnson was a Southerner who sympathized with the Union during the civil war. He was nominated for VP by Abraham Lincoln for the obvious political reason that it showed the South that they would be included in the new government post civil war. Of course, Abe was shot to death, and northerners and southerners both hated Andrew Johnson. One Term or Less but did not die in office.
Trump may violate the tradition and even decide to upstage Biden's innauguration. That is apalling. |

I have a bet, I'm not sure I'm at liberty to say with whom, that Trump will show up. I am starting to not like my side. Knowledge is Good -- Emil Faber |

The man acts totally on a whim. If someone convinces him that he will look poorly in the history books, he may decide to attend a week before. |
