Do we really need yet another zombie movie? Even if this one's got Brad Pitt?

It is the third zombie movie this year alone. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is coming out in two years. Zombieland (2009) and Shaun of the Dead (2004) were probably the best reviewed zombie movies of recent decades.

Critics have never liked the big budget films much, but this year, there are only 7 popular movies on Rotten Tomatoes list of top 100 movies according to critics. World War Z made the list (but just barely).

36. 87% Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) 237 reviews
54. 80% Warm Bodies (2013) 174 reviews
62. 78% Iron Man 3 (2013) 267 reviews
63. 77% 42 (2013) 141 reviews
64. 77% Monsters University (2013) 131 reviews
92. 67% World War Z (2013) 202 reviews
95. 66% Mama (2013) 143 reviews

Critics have been reasonably positive about JJ Abrams, in particular they like the Star Trek movie. They hated Armageddon

2009 95% Star Trek : Producer Director
2013 87% Star Trek Into Darkness : Producer Director
2011 82% Super 8 : Producer/Screenwriter/Director
2001 74% Joy Ride : Screenwriter
2006 70% Mission: Impossible III : Director/Screenwriter
1992 53% Forever Young : Screenwriter
1991 44% Regarding Henry : Screenwriter
1998 39% Armageddon : Screenwriter

George A Romero, who basically invented the zombie genre, has not gotten very good reviews for his newer zombie movies.
1968 96% Night of the Living Dead
1978 94% Dawn of the Dead
1985 81% Day of the Dead
2005 74% Land of the Dead
1990 68% Night of the Living Dead
2007 62% Diary of the Dead
2009 30% Survival of the Dead

Yes. More content is needed. Hollywood is paying top dollar for low quality content because low quality content is all that is around.

Movies about Zombies... hey... they've been 'hot' recently. What ever a Zombie is... there have been zombie movies and zombie dances and Madonna just said something about zombies last week so go out and get some films about zombies. I saw something last week about playing zombie music on a saw so it will be real easy to get zombies and saws together, sounds like a plan, maybe even a concept. Go for it!!

"Under the Skin" with Scarlett Johansson.

Quote:
The film made headlines a few months ago, when the story of how Glazer made the film got out to the public. It turns out that Johansson would drive up to real, unknowing men on the street to proposition them in her black wig and fake Scottish accent. Some of those men were eventually clued into what was actually happening and became a part of the movie.

The movie "Big Ass Spider" actually got 18 good reviews and 5 bad ones on rotten tomatoes. That's a decent ratio.

A lot better than "Ender's Game" which is also a monster movie, but that cost $110 million to produce and sold only 7 million tickets.

If you want to see a great horror movie see Cabin In The Woods. Joss Whedon wrote a great story. Dont think its your regular "cabin in the woods" movie! Its not.

Quote: NY Times review
The lesson of the “Scream” movies — a lesson their characters reliably failed to learn — was that a grasp of the semiotics of cinematic horror will not necessarily save you from a crazed killer. At its best, that series proved that it was possible to be spoofy and scary at the same time, to activate the cognitive and sensory circuits that produce both laughter and fear.

“The Cabin in the Woods” bungles that relatively straightforward trick, partly because it wants to do a lot more than provide a dose of shrieks and giggles. There is a scholarly, nerdy, completist sensibility at work here that is impressive until it becomes exhausting.

I think the NY Times can be overly intellectual. I loved that movie, and even knowing that Joss Whedon is going to try to stand the horror movie concept on end with a scholarly, nerdy, sensibility doesn't spoil the way that he completes the movie.

With the popularity of these Real Life Marathons, Hollywood should turn to making Reality Movies.

As actual propositions with Johns, some directors have had bank robbery scenes without notifying the local police and the passersby on the street. One of these days realism will get someone shot.

I thought it was a very smart funny and scary movie. Glad you loved it too!
