Charter schools are similar to Magnet Schools in that anyone can apply, but the school may choose who they accept. It's my understanding they are privately run but paid for by the state. I'm sure the state oversees quality, but I don't know much about that. I absolutely applaud the idea of letting the private sector attempt to do better than the state is doing.

Of course, I just think they should be doing it with exactly zero assistance from the state.

Sounds similar to a lot of places, but also I am curious are all the conventional schools one administrative unit? That is what is weird to me as I grew up and live in the county with probably the most districts in the nation. In perspective it would be as if Bellagio was in one district, what was the Stardust was another, and where the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop was still another, and so on. Each with their own administrative system. I am assuming Clark County is not that way and just one admin unit sort of like Metro is all the cops?

Clark County School District (Las Vegas area) is the fifth largest in the country with approximately 320,000 students.

I think Clark County is the single administrative unit.

That's a lot of pupils. My school district had roughly 13,000 pupils,

The one I went to currently has 3000! And that has to be up from when I went. I bet there were just 2000 then.

First District: ~2,300
Second District: ~5,300
Third District: ~4600

Those are relatively current numbers. Based on population changes in the area corresponding to these districts, I would surmise that Districts 1 & 2 are somewhat smaller now than when I was in the student body and District 3 is about the same.

I could extrapolate for Districts 1 & 2 using what would have been the size of my graduating class (had I remained in those districts), but I am aware that the student body count was notably small for my grade in District 1 and don't know how it relates to the average in District 2.

Pennsylvania is strange with municipalities. Part of this difference is Ohio save Youngstown uses Jeffersonian section/town/range system. But due to the rugged terrain PA has so many more divisions. It is the Holy Roman Empire with little fifedoms that exist independent. To merge them is to try to merge the Brazil and Argentina soccer teams.

I had a great public school education
One of my best teachers was also an actor
Were assigned one Shakespeare book a year
The teacher was fantastic. Made me really appreciate Shakespeare
The books are funny and bawdy.
