A woman ordered a cup of coffee for $5.70 and was mistakenly billed $5705.70 (obviously input twice).

Is anyone wary about using a checking account debit card?

Some people swear by them, but the ones I run into seem to be saying that they don't trust themselves with a regular credit card. They indicate they have discipline with a debit card that flees with a CC.

I use a CC for just about everything and pay it completely off monthly. no interest
except 2 situations
Some gas stations in CA are cash or debit only, no CC
So I use debit because I save my cash for the other situation
Dispensaries are still a cash only business

I always make my own coffee
Its easy to make and would rather drink it after I get up rather then after a drive

With my credit card, I Receive an alert (e-mail or text) when a Transaction Exceeds Amount $200

In the past year, I have only 6 charges over $200, all of which were legitimate. You can choose a higher threshold amount if you regularly make charges in excess of $200.

02/15/21 LEHIGH FUELS,$717.70
03/22/21 LEHIGH FUELS,$711.70

Is that feature not available on bank debit cards?

In this particular case, the woman may have received a receipt with the error, but if it was a case of true fraud then she may not have been given a receipt. But she would still receive the alert.

I NEVER use a debit card. For just this kind of reason.

I don't know if it's available on most debit cards, but it's available on mine and I monitor it. I receive alerts on my 2 credit, 1 debit, and a best buy card which is only good at best buy.

A liquor store chain here in Texas offers a 5% discount for using cash or debit card. That's the only place I use one.

I don't understand all the concern about debit cards. Is there a lot of fraud with them in the US? I know a lot of people in Canada that have had problems with CC's but none who have had problems with debit. I use my bank card for everything I can and only use my CC if I can't use my debit. Since Covid I activated the 'tap' feature on the card so I can have no touch on the machines although it is only good to a maximum of $100. Some of the online sites can now handle a debit card payment. I also make and receive payments with interact E-transfers for thousands of dollars, are they even available in the US?

LOL. I receive an alert when my wife charges something LESS than $200!
