When I was in Switzerland, I asked a few people about used license plates and they all seemed shocked to get the question, as if I asked them for a kidney. .

Being a politically neutral banking country,
you could probably use a Swiss plate for
god knows what crime. They have experience
with this, they didn't search you because
this was all new to them.

Maryland is my third strongest state in my license plate collection. Remember, I lived there form 1992 to 2001.

Up for auction on Ebay is a collection of nine Vintage Assateague Island Surf License Plate Lot Multi-Year Maryland Virginia. I actually don't have any of these in my collection, that I can recall.

They don't get much respect from license plate collectors because it could easily debated that they even are license plates. They are more of a fishing license. I don't know too much about it, but I think they were connected to a person, not a vehicle. The hobby is full of things like this that look like license plates but are not a vehicle license. Nevertheless, this is a nice looking set. Individually, they tend to go for $60 to $80 each on eBay. Interestingly, they go for more when done as a true auction than a "buy it now" offer. I think a lot of people, including me, don't really respect "buy it now" items as so many are overpriced by a factor of 2x or more.

I saw a thing on Youtube that commercial
vehicles sometimes use chemicals to
scrub off the reflective background in
Calif so the plate can't be read by a
computer when they blow thru areas.
Big fine if caught tampering with a plate,
even when you say it wasn't you. Like
they don't hear that 20 times a day.

Stanley has caught a bunch of people. Some simply use steel wool.

I've seen hundreds of his videos.
Calif has some of the worst,
stupidist, and drivers with no
license, no insurance and no
registration. Some of it boggles
my mind. This is just an average
one:

Almost 20% of CA drivers have a suspended license due to not paying fines.

Here is my latest temptation: Original WW2 Major General’s Jeep License Plate 2 Stars.

I always thought it looked very cool how general's went around in a special jeep with their number of stars on the front license plate. A down side is this probably wouldn't be considered a real license plate by the club. I do have a decent number of military-related license plates so it would fit in well to my collection.

Worth asking is why do the stars point down, while they point up on the flag?

These are different from the one on Ebay.

I suspect the plate is mounted with the slots on the bottom.
The mind hungers for that on which it feeds.
