I was suspended for a week at WoV, and I think it was unwarranted: let me explain.

EB was yakking about how climate change is not a significant, man made problem, and I disagreed.

I posted there suggesting he / we take the discussion to DT, as it violated WoV rule 19 (controversial, political speech).

EB characteristically ignored my request and continued to rant in his inimitable manner, so I chose to respond.

I got suspended for jokingly saying all of his "hot air" helped cause global warming: where is the insult?

When we talk we all exhale hot air.

Isn't TRUTH a defense?

How is that an insult, esp. in the context of that windbag?

More to the point however is the fact that I was also banned for "political" posts: OK, if that is so, why then isn't EB banned for the same thing?

He blithely violates the rule with impunity, apparently: what, is that guy the teacher's pet?

Hell, I told him to stop, I even created a thread here for him to squat on, but he continued to spew at WoV.

I call foul, I call discriminatory enforcement.

Whatever, it's just mildly annoying, to get played like that by people that really ought to know better.

Memo to mods: THINK before reflexively using the ban hammer.

I care, as I suspect do others: not about me, but about how the site is devolving.

There's still some juice to be squeezed out of the WoV lemon provided the farmer doesn't run amuck and scare off all his pickers with his shotgun.

You will get suspended here when Mike sees this. We are not allowed to discuss what happens on wov here.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

You can send a private message to a mod here for an appeal Starting a thread about it here could get another suspension. (I think that's the rule.)

I have not really been following WOV that closely over the past 1 or so years since I have no been going to casinos since COVID and such (except for a few threads that interest me). But, the no political statements has been a rule for quite some time now on WOV. If you were trying to argue with somebody about environmental policy, this is the place.

I don't know anything about the post or thread in question (nor do I care to look to be honest), but even based on your summary that sounds like a fair decision on the current rules.

If you got a week suspension that means you must have been suspended before (I think most firsts on both DT and WOV are just three days), and the political rule has been around for a while, so I don't feel that bad for you.

(For the record I probably agree with your point of view on this, but that is not the point here).

At the end of the day its Wizard's forum (at least this one is, I know WOV is more complex as far as ownership), and as the saying goes, the King wields the axe, and the followers walk the trail.

I was suspended once for saying "have you stopped beating your wife" to show someone I was not interested in their loaded questions.
The reason for the suspension is they did not see the clear intent and thought it was an insult.

I got over it, you will, too.

I am concerned that I got suspended for discussing politics, yet EB gets a bye to discuss politics with seeming immunity.

So far as the Wiz or a mod suspending me for creating this thread, I first reviewed the 19 rules of this site and did not and do not see a rule prohibiting such discussion.

Existing rules need to be fairly enforced, and in this instance they were not.

I hope you read this, Wiz: you made an error in judgment on this one.

But this is not an appeal, per se, I am content to serve my week of penance in the dog house, but really, EB should be there with me.

That is a good point. This is a "rule" (quotes intentional) that is pointed out frequently by members (and some mods) on both forums when discussions cross forum lines. However, I just checked the rules on both forum and cannot find it codified.

I suspect it may just be one of those unofficial moderator policies to encourage a single discussion to be confined to one forum. (I only spent about 10 seconds glossing over both forum rules pages, so if I am wrong I am happy to be corrected), but yeah you are right I don't see that this is an actual violation as per the rules.

I have never had an issue or topic that crossed forums, so I cannot speak from personal experience. But, I suspect that you are correct, there is not a blatant ban on cross-forum discussion.
