It was a Dodge is all I remember. If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose. |

I agree that there is little use for a sedan today. Most people need a rear door. I think manufacturers hobbled the cars so that people would move up to SUVs. The old Subaru "sports wagon" that we have (model year 2007 has a 6.3" ground clearance. They have since dropped that down to 5.1" ground clearance so that people would be more apt to move up to the SUV with 8.1" ground clearance built on the same platform. The SUV has identical cargo volume as the sports wagon and an identical engine. Throw in some plastic wheel arch cladding and a black rocker spoiler along with 1" larger diameter tires and a better alloy wheel and you have a $3000 price increase. The Subaru Crosstrek SUV is outselling the Subaru Impreza which comes in sedan or hatchback by over 5 to 1. Correct from 6.3' to 6.3" |

That's crazy, I couldn't imagine a passenger car selling at all with a six foot three inch ground clearance. LOL At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent. |

Generally speaking lowering the clearance lowers the drag which should increase mileage. Likely Subaru was trying to increase mileage. "but if you make yourselves sheep, the wolves will eat you." Benjamin Franklin |

Did you mean to say "coupe" instead of "sedan?" |

Pacomartin Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 1068 Posts: 12569 | Station wagon in the automobile sense is first recorded 1929, from earlier use for a horse-drawn conveyance that took passengers and their luggage to and from railroad stations (1894).
Subaru used to call the 5 door vehicle a "sports wagon" up to 2007. Then the term "wagon" and also the term "hatchback" became deadly advertising words. Now they just call it a "5-door" which has no good or bad connotation at all. I used the word "rear doors" which I now realize is vague since that could refer to backseat doors. ================================= Ford/Lincoln has eliminated "cars" almost completely from their line-up. September 2021 sales of Ford/Lincoln in the US were 156,614 vehicles, but cars were: 42 Fusion 10 GT 6 MKZ 14 Continental 2,728 Mustang This electric vehicle is classified as an SUV 1,578 Mustang Mach-E |

Pacomartin Member since: Oct 24, 2012 Threads: 1068 Posts: 12569 | I think that General Motors may have too many brands. Each of the four brands has one dominant model which is the lion's share of sale (percentages from 3rd quarter 2021). Chevrolet 42.7% Silverado pickup truck GMC 54.3% Sierra pickup truck Buick 52.2% Encore compact SUV Cadillac 45.0% Escalade luxury car It does seem as if a luxury brand is required for every manufacturer. Ford has Lincoln, Toyota has Lexus, Honda has Acura, Nissan has Infiniti, Hyundai has Genesis. Would General Motors have better sales if there was only two brands, GM and Cadillac? GM would be Chevrolet, GMC, and Buick. |

Not really. You do not shrink yourself to profitability. GM did have too many brands, not they are in decent shape. Cadillac is iconic even if GM has destroyed so much of its status. Chevrolet is a solid, entry level brand. Buick survives because it is iconic in China and needs to remain in the USA to keep that street cred there. GMC is both a higher line truck and companion brand to keep USA Buick dealers profitable. Infiniti is dying as a brand and may soon be demoted to "companion brand" at a troubled Nissan. In Canada they already eliminated the separate showroom requirement. Genesis will probably remain a companion brand for decades to forever, simply not the volume to make it its own. The President is a fink. |

You may be correct, but Toyota seems to do sell more vehicles fewer models and very few models with under 16,00 sales per quarter 1,857,883 Toyota - nine months of 2021 1,777,483 General Motors - nine months of 2021
