The Cambridge Dictionary defines "virtue signalling" as: "An attempt to show other people that you are a good person, for example by expressing opinions that will be acceptable to them, especially on social media."

So "virtue signalling" is basically a very old slur expressed in a new way. Accusations acting good out of bad faith, are as old as civilization. The phrase "virtue signalling" joins “radical chic”, “bleeding hearts”, “politically correct”, and “posers”.

I kind of like the slur because it is basically unbeatable. No one can definitively prove they are not doing it.

But it seems like the perfect slur sometimes. Like people who buy a $625,000 Ferrari that runs for a 15 miles on a 7.9 kWh battery.
