I'm not a card-carrying liberal and my imagination is not running wild.

Russian troll farms flooded social media with pro-Trump / anti-Hillary posts; this was sniffed out by US intelligence.

Saying a few social media posts was "interference" is like saying what you post on this forum matters outside it. Liberals made up the Russia nonsense because they to this day do not understand why Hillary lost.

Nobody really liked Hillary; her personality was as pleasing as poison ivy.

Trump had the advantage of being a known TV / media personality and people were intrigued by the notion of "an outsider" running the show.

Oops.

We should reevaluate all defense spending in light of what does and does not work in Ukraine

Also current strategy perhaps.

The era of the tank may be coming to an end.

Why are the Russians looking like the Keystone Cops in this "military action?"

Back in the day they were to be feared, but based on results to date they deserve only to be jeered.

The Russian military was gutted by the late 1990s. At one point their pilots were only allotted 8 hours per year of training flight time. Troops were barely being fed. What this means is they are effectively starting from scratch and have a less than 20 year old functioning military.

It is probably still full of corruption and ineffective officers. That is a big thing. The Pentagon did an after-war review of the Gulf War and concluded if the equipment were reversed with Iraq having ours and us theirs that the results would still be the same.

The Russian military has never been very good. The Japanese beat them. They only pushed Hitler back with lend lease arms and by sheer waves of men the Germans did not have.

Thank you, those are some good points.

In contrast to the Russians, the Ukrainians seem surprisingly effective and well organized.

I have a higher opinion of the Red army in WWII than you seem to; they came up with some surprisingly good tanks, e.g. T-34, and Zhukov was a brilliant strategist.

Russia also had some very good air planes.

But what I most recall about the Russian army in WWII is reports of the ferocity of their troops: willingly fighting to the last man across the battle lines: it's not like that today in the Russian army, but it is with the Ukrainians.

This conflict is a good learning experience for all military strategists; I can see some paradigm shifts in conventional military doctrine emerging because of it: the era of drones / UAV's has definitely arrived.

This is because they had rifles pointed at their backs. They were told you can attack and maybe die or retreat and be shot for sure.
