Is social contract theory wrong? Eventually, we'd arrive at a point wherein we would be discussing whether or not there is any intrinsic and absolute merit to the concept of organized society as a whole. I think we'd both ultimately agree that there isn't, but then, would go back to the reality of living in a country, and world, that largely assumes that there is; we'd almost certainly continue to operate accordingly.

I think we just need to educate those 99.9% of the public.

Off the top of my head I can't think of other subjects where we discourage people under a certain age of getting education.

I believe it was Nancy Reagan that started the Just Say No to Drugs campaigns in Elementary schools.

So you think that it is fine to teach children of any age about sex and porn, alcohol, drugs, killing, using a gun ......? Pretty much all societies have decided that we should protect our children from exposure to certain things. Have we gone to far in North America with this protection? I don't know but likely. Many don't want their children playing with even toy guns, toys shouldn't be gender specific, the list is endless.

Sometimes education is really just prohibiting a behaviour. Drug education is basically to brow beat the kids into not using drugs. After 100's of millions of dollars spent on the 'war on drugs' we have it down to the catchy slogan 'Just Say No', very educational.

This is pretty much the subjects on the playground. As little kids, we played Army all the time with fake guns. Fake guns loaded with caps were extremely popular. I remember as little kids we would make fun of drunk parents. All this when I was in 2nd grade in Baltimore. We were very aware of porn but it was more fun to play army at that young age.

I don't like Ron Desantis politically. But, watching more interviews of him, I can say with full confidence he is better than Trump in a way that I cannot put into numbers.
If Ron Desantis were President I would be cringing at the backward social programs he would be pushing, but I would never be afraid of widescale corruption. He is infinitely more stable and sound.

The downside of this is if he becomes the Republican nominee he actually has a chance of defeating Biden.

Trump is a double edge sword. He is a terrible person and horrible at everything. However, that level of incompetence means that he rarely gets anything done (which for a Republican President is almost always a good thing).

I hope Desantis defeats Trump in the Republican primary only because it will slightly restore my faith in the Republican party that it is not completely maga infested. But, this can also be bad for the Democrats (to face an effective leader, who can speak well, and actually is pretty consistent regardless of what you think of his views).

Desantis is almost certainly a better person than Trump (very low bar), but he can be more dangerous to the Democrats.

The most significant thing Trump has done since he left office is help more Democrats win. If Democrats hold the Presidency in 2024, I'm going to send him a thankyou note. And if someone puts up a plane with a banner thanking him for a Democrat win in 2024 I'll send some money to sponsor the flight over his home.

Yeah as much as I despise Trump, I think that him winning the nomination will be an empirically good thing politically.

Of course Trump is about the worst human in modern American politics, so I don't really want to wish success on him. Plus him winning the nomination and losing the general will have other effects (like all of the goons insisting that he really won leading to further tension).

Desantis is definitely the lesser of two evils. However, the Faustian bargain is that he has a good chance of winning the general so it is better for the corrupt imbecile to win the primary politically.

Yes I do. Why should age matter when it comes to education?
