why did Lincoln love corn pone?

He first ate them as a boy, and they remained his favorite breakfast food throughout his life. He often bragged that he could eat them faster than anyone could make them. He also enjoyed them for late Sunday supper. Essentially, corn cakes are pancakes made with cornmeal instead of flour.

Never had that. At least not that I know of. (also thought you misspelled porn)_(never had corn porn either)
You believe in an invisible god, and dismiss people who say they are trans? Really?

I really like corn pone with soups and certain stews. Corn cakes are the same thing, but if you say pone it indicates Southern preferences ... no flour, and certainly no sugar. You almost had me write that as 'porn'

if you can get stone ground cornmeal it makes a huge difference

Why do some people have a very distinctive odor to their urine shortly after eating asparagus, and some others do not?

So we can mark our territory. :)

I knew a person that negotiated with a city for sanitation material.

He would cure the material with heavy machinery anaerobically.

When cured, the material looked like super-rich potting soil.

I'd could buy a pick-up truck load for $10-15.

Most people think of a farming by fertilization, pesticides, and herbicides, etc. for the crop itself.

I think of it differently.

To nourish the biological life in the soil.

Some call it the Soil Food Web.

No need for pesticides nor herbicides.

Anyway, the critters love urine.

That previous post brings me to Terra Preta.

It's called bio-char (charcoal derivative).

To increase the biological life inside the soil.

So one way is to dig a cone pit and place wood in the pit to burn.

But the fire has to be layered properly and a favorable chemical transition occurs.

After curing, and when placed inside the soil, it increases biological life if done right.

----------------

Terra preta owes its characteristic black color to its weathered charcoal content, and was made by adding a mixture of charcoal, bones, broken pottery, compost and manure to the low fertility Amazonian soil.

someone i know bought fertilizer from some municipality's sewage processing ... this was back in maybe 1990

the instructions were to use it in the yard but not the vegetable garden. It had too much heavy metal waste in it

I used it for soil erosion in the yard.

The yard was sloped downward and rain would carry the topsoil away over many years.

Duckweed is a possible remedy.

In our part of the woods, wood chips are a good way to enhance biological growth.

The downside, is they can absorb the nitrogen, so have to have time for decay.

The Back to Eden guy has interesting info.

There are some places that will dump chips in the yard or will provide them for free.

There's a couple close to where I went to college where I was looking at some land.

There has been interest in farming gold using plants.

It's called phytomining.

Apparently, some plant species can take up more than others out of the soil.

Can you mine lava for minerals?

Not really. Magma is the molten rock that lies several kilometres below the Earth's surface. It contains many minerals that we want, but in very dilute form. It's better to let nature concentrate them for us before we try to mine them.
