Never eaten possum or had it offered to me. When a kid, found them disgusting when encountered ... hissing things with nasty teeth and generally nasty looking

If you have an old copy of The Joy of Cooking, '60s or so, they cover possum and other surprising things people used to eat. In the index, look for opossum, not possum. Not sure what was going on in FL but I think the Joy of C no longer had a recipe in '82

According to the old recipe, you should try to catch a possum first. You then feed it for 10 days on milk and cereal. Doesn't say why [I know, though, can you guess?]. You pluck it instead of skinning it, technique described, then cook it like pork after parboiling.

Just noticed a very odd statement about bear is in the old Joy of C.: "all bear is edible except black bear" which is ridiculous. This is included within a sentence about marinating, so I'm guessing they mean "don't try to marinate bear meat that is black in color"? If so, a very poor sentence was used here, easily misunderstood.

Possum seem very easy to catch. Once you scare them they will play dead and you can just pick them up and they will continue playing dead. In Florida my dog has presented us with a few of them that he has caught in the backyard. We live in the middle of a subdivision with no "wild habitat" for miles.
At my age a Life In Prison sentence is not much of a detrrent.

In the last year I've run over two. Both at night. I decided not to do a roadkill meal. You could probably eat meat for free if you had enough gas and at least a small motorcycle and you were willing and able to judge edible unspoiled meat.

Seems to me, if you can cook and eat liver, or "Cockroach of the Sea" (Lobster) the look of a Possum shouldn't be off-putting.

Since I posted about the cocking problem it in this thread, I'll continue here

Finally after quite a bit of looking at different discussion sites got a hint as to what the problem is with a Hawken type muzzleloader that won't cock. There is an adjustment screw that can 'wander' and you may need to adjust it over time. It's the screw in the image that is between the triggers [there is a 'set' trigger along with the firing trigger] It is not the screw you see loose there

I read somewhere that Slinging Sammy Baugh was the first to really realize the potential of the shape of the American football for passing, and that the shape of it at the time had just been altered to make it even better for passing. As I remember, this may have evolved together, the league's idea for the latest shape and his use of it in passing. I haven't found that "evolve together" confirmation in the little bit of searching I've done , though

Super Bowl History: Why Are Footballs Shaped Like That?

In the 1860s and 1870s, once Richard Lindon developed a rubber version of the pig bladder for rugby players... , then American football players started to use the same

After the forward pass started being used in 1906, the shape of the ball kept getting gradually narrower, becoming what’s officially called a prolate spheroid.

What was Sammy Baugh known for?

Baugh was a three-way player, serving as a quarterback, defensive back and punter. Known as "Slingin' Sammy," he was the first NFL quarterback to make the forward pass a key component of his game. Baugh played in 165 games and completed 1,693-of-2,995 passes for 21,886 yards, 187 touchdowns and 203 interceptions.

Our business leaders gave Chinese leader Xi a standing ovation when he was in San Fran

Many people opined that each dude hoped they would be noticed applauding. But I wondered if what actually happened was, some guy was noticed to be the first to stop applauding? This has historical significance,

Quote:
After Joseph Stalin gave his speech at a conference for the Communist Party in 1937, the audience exploded into applause. Everyone in the room leaped to their feet and began to clap wildly...The clapping continued nonstop for eleven minutes.

Finally, one man had enough and stopped clapping... Later that night, the man who stopped clapping first was arrested and sentenced to ten years in prison. Authorities reportedly told him “don’t ever be the first one to stop clapping!“

do more murders occur on thanksgiving?

On Thanksgiving, the chances of being a victim of a crime perpetrated by a member of your own family or someone you know rise by more than 50%.

You need to make sure all guns are locked up before extended family sits down to dinner.

Or conversely, if your last name is Hatfield, don't invite over a McCoy.
