After a decade and 15 successful films, it looks like PIXAR has produced a dud.

I'm still waiting for a sequel to "The Incredibles"

I mean, it would be nice to see how a superhero family lives, when they can be active superheroes.

Do the parents get paid for their service? Do they need to hold down jobs besides? Are the kids excused from a mid-term if they have to flit to the other side of the world in an emergency? What about insurance and liability? Medical issues? It could be very funny and uplifting.

Pixar announced one film, called "Newt" and seems to have cancelled it, or put it on indefinite hold.

Pixar has announced dates for four sequels and one new film

6/17/16 Finding Dory
6/16/17 Cars 3
11/22/17 Coco
6/15/18 Toy Story 4
6/21/19 The Incredibles 2

I am not sure why they want to make another sequel to Cars since the first one was mediocre, the second one didn't do well. Presumably it is easy to make toys.

Coco will be set in Mexico

That far away?

I'll already be disillusioned with Star Wars when it comes around :)

The last animated movie I saw
was The Hobbit in the 70's.
They irritate the crap out of me
for some reason. I saw a few
minutes of Shrek. It's the famous
voices I don't like, Eddie Murphy
as a donkey. It sounds phony, like
he's making a joke. My attention
immediately wanders.

I know! Ratatouille and MI-GP were a reasonable diversion, but he really went awol with Tomorrowland. Brad Bird should have directed TI#2 instead.

2017 The Incredibles 2 (attached) (announced)
2015 Tomorrowland
2011 Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol
2007 Ratatouille
2004 The Incredibles

1906 (announced) no time scheduled

Ratatouille is one of the most uplifting movies I've ever seen. Ego's review of Gusteau's near the end is a beautiful paean to skill and creativity, which casts away prejudice in the process ("..a great artist can come from anywhere.")

I should watch it again soon.

I think Jungle Book (1967) was the first animated feature where the voices were more famous as musicians and straight actors than as professional voice actors.
Phil Harris ... 'Baloo' the Bear (voice)
Louis Prima... King Louie of the Apes (voice)
Sebastian Cabot ... 'Bagheera' the Panther (voice)
George Sanders ... Shere Khan the Tiger (voice)
Sterling Holloway... 'Kaa' the Snake (voice)

The movie sold 56 million tickets in it's first release. In comparison no movie last year sold more than 43 million tickets.

Theaters make a fortune now because parents
see the animated movies with their kids. When
I was a kid, my parents dropped us off at noon
at the Saturday double feature, with half an hour
of great cartoons, and 20min of previews, and
picked us up 4 hours later. You never saw any parents
in the theater, it was hundreds of screaming kids.

I think they always put some adult bits into animated films. Especially the Warner brothers shorts.

The Disney movies were divided. Some like Bambi were purely for kids, but I think other ones, like Fantasia, were designed to appeal to adults as well.

  1. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs December 21, 1937
  2. Pinocchio February 7, 1940
  3. Fantasia November 13, 1940
  4. Dumbo October 23, 1941
  5. Bambi August 13, 1942
  6. Saludos Amigos February 6, 1943
  7. The Three Caballeros February 3, 1945
  8. Make Mine Music April 20, 1946
  9. Fun and Fancy Free September 27, 1947
  10. Melody Time May 27, 1948
  11. The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad October 5, 1949
  12. Cinderella February 15, 1950
  13. Alice in Wonderland July 28, 1951
  14. The Story of Robin Hood and His Merrie Men June 26, 1952
  15. Peter Pan February 5, 1953
  16. Lady and the Tramp June 22, 1955
  17. Sleeping Beauty January 29, 1959
  18. One Hundred and One Dalmatians January 25, 1961
  19. The Sword in the Stone December 25, 1963
  20. The Jungle Book October 18, 1967

You are watching the wrong kind of animation
Try anime such as Black Lagoon
Made for adults. F-bombs flying everywhere. Over the top violence. Very entertaining
