Arthur C. Clarke found some sunken treasure n the course of his pastime of diving in the Indian Ocean. he wrote about it in one of his essay collections, but I lost the book shortly after I read it (A View from Serendip, I think). As I recall it was hard work and not very profitable, particularly as there wasn't that much treasure to begin with.

If you knew how much treasure is less than a foot under ground all over you'd be pretty rich I imagine.

Use of satellite imagery and multi frequency photography, study of vegetation and the like has lead to tremendous strides in archeology. Major commerce centers are being discovered.

Recall perhaps a recent episode of Better Caul Saul: He knew The Good Samaratine who stopped to aid the truckdriver was burried there, but he still found alot of junk with his metal detector before he hit paydirt.

Question: Given this year July 4th falls on Tuesday, do most of you in the US expect to get Monday off as well?

There's probably more people called in sick due to where a holiday is scheduled. If all holidays were on Wednesday more people would probably not try to extend it through weekends

Some people might get Monday's off too, but as far as I know it's not a custom. Just up to a workplace. Certainly not at the Federal level.

Where I work we get 9 or 10 holidays off, plus four "floating holidays" in addition to our other paid time off, to be used as we like.

While we don't have the 3rd of July off as a company holiday, it is my understanding that a lot of people are using one of their floating holidays on that day.

July 3rd regular workday for me. My son the computer programmer using one of his 5 personal days to make it a 4 day weekend. Regular workday for my GF the dentist. My ex-wife is using alimony check to visit Mongolia. Will save money by staying in a yurt.

Before Mexico moved most major holidays to Mondays, this was a common issue. The answer was about the same, except there was a tendency for business to exchange the Monday or Friday for another holiday.
