I'm not sure what you think I said, but I am not saying change time all the time. I'm saying set it to one spot and leave it all year.

I totally agree
I think most Americans love DST
I certainly do
I love having several hours of sunshine after work
Its switching back to standard time that sucks
I think eventually the country will evolve to permanent DST and allow AZ/HI to opt out and stay on standard time. A lot of interest in this in cities like Boston that are very far east. December it gets dark around 430p while here in Tampa, same time zone, about 6pm. I can see school districts change their schedules to start later in the Winter. The majority prefer daylight savings time year round. It was a no brainer in FL and passed easily. It passed easily because the majority love DST

To Bob's point, I don't think it is an issue of either liking or disliking DST, I think what people really dislike is switching back and forth.

As for kids walking to school in the dark, the earliest sunrise in December in Michigan is 7:48am, and the latest (and latest sunrise overall) is 8:01am. Sunset is around 5pm.

My kids were already in school in session right around at that time. First hour at the school starts at 7:50am.

With year round dst, sunrise would be 9am and sunset 6pm. Either way the kids are walking to school/riding the bus in to school in the dark.

Unless the sun has changed in 50
years, that's not true. I took a bus
to school for 8 years in MI and we
never were in darkness. Even on
the shortest day, there is pre dawn
light, it's never so dark you can't
be seen by traffic. Our school started
at 7:55am and we were at the bus
stop at 7:30. Plenty of light.

I remember the 70's and those kids
were in total blackness sometimes,
not a safe thing. It was so bad many
parents took their kids to the bus stop
in their cars.

Well, kids can't vote, so...

PRAISE THE SUN! Today's the last day of horse s#$% darkness and standard time buggery.

I have friend who's a corn farmer
in IA. He hates DST. He gets up
at 5am and his day is done at 6pm.
He would rather have that hour of
light in the morning, and most farmers
feel the same way.

It all depends where you are EB. The bread basket of Canada, Saskatchewan stays on standard time all year. If we didn't go on DST where I live it would be daylight at 3AM on the summer solstice. With daylight savings it is about 4AM for daylight and 10:30 or 11:00 for dusk.

The rural kids that have 45 min or longer bus rides catch the bus in the dark and get home in the dark . Couldn't change that no matter what you did not since there is not enough hours of daylight for a couple of months a year.

I prefer living on planet earth. Every
person I know who moved to Alaska
in the last 50 years moved back to the
lower 48 after a couple years. Nobody
can love the dark that much and be
normal.

Tell him that neither the corn husks nor the hogs will ever tell him he is an hour late or an hour early.
