I think the point was that it is difficult to make fun of Brits who can't label American states when most Americans have massive trouble with British counties, and are very limited with the 10 Canadian provinces (and 3 territories) and their capitals

Indeed... this was my original point kinda... Brits often make fun of Americans lack of geographical knowledge too...

Or to ask people to name the 13 states then Americans should know the original 4 provinces of the Confederation.

Erm.... I THINK I know that.... I probably should know it for my citizenship test

Alas, a majority of Americans cannot name the capital of Canada.

London! :P

Seriously, Ottawa. But then I used to pass the time on Sundays trapped in my grandmother's house by perusing the Encyclopaedia Britannica Atlas. Geography is one area where you expect average people the world over to show amazing ignorance.

I have seen surveys where 52% of Americans could not answer that question, including Harvard students.

Still, many of those Harvard students did sign the petition for Canada to buy large air conditioners to cool the National Igloo in Ottawa so as to save it from global warming. As did many Harvard students sign the petition to urge Canada to increase from 62 to 65 the age at which Canadian National Health puts old people adrift on the ice floe.

I'm not surprised at all. George W. Bush has a degree from Harvard. 'Nuff said.
