¿Por qué es Kwanzaa falsa? (I think Kwanzaa should be feminine because it ends in an a.)

Without looking it up, IIRC a leftist professor decided it was unseemly for Af/Am folk to be celebrating the "white" holiday Christmas. So he decided to invent a new holiday out of whole cloth that celebrated African things. I suppose anybody has the right to celebrate anything anyway he wants, and anybody can join him. The way the media embraced it as if it had real legitimacy was disgusting, though, IMO. I realize one can make the argument now that, since it did get so much support, claiming it is phoney is water under the bridge [if that is your feeling you get a pass]

Una persona honesta debe llamar mierda de toro, mierda de toro, en mi opinión.

On a lighter note, Merry Christmas!

I would argue that all religious-based holidays were ultimately made up. Yes, once they have been celebrated for over 1000 years they gain more respect, but they had to feel "made up" at one point.

For example, one could write a book on how Christmas has been hijacked over and over. It started out as a pagan winter solstice event, then hijacked by Christianity, and hijacked again by Santa Claus and excessive commercialism. I hope nobody will challenge me on this, but there is a lot of evidence to suggest Jesus was born in the warmer months of the year, probably summer.

Since all religions are made up, then all religious holidays are made up as well. That's self-evident.

Luke 2:8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

This verse is often cited as evidence that the birth of Christ was in a warmer month, as shepherds would not likely be out at the shortest time of the year.

In any event, the celebration of the birth of Christ did not begin until hundreds of years after he was dead. Dies Natalis Solis Invicti means "the birthday of the Unconquered Sun". It actually makes more sense that an existing holiday was co-opted for this celebration rather than some secret society kept track of the birth for hundreds of years and failed to write it down.

My brother is a preacher, and most of them simply don't care. They begin sermons by saying "This is the day we celebrate...".

I used to know a very religious guy who said that Christmas and Easter were straight from the pit of hell and meant to distract Christians. He said that since they were never recognized in the bible he had no respect for them.

Maybe so.

But to me Xmas is the time of year when Christians gather pagan symbols to celebrate the birth of a Jew ;P
