This very ambitious TV series failed badly on TV. It ran as a two part miniseries, followed by 17 episodes. Ratings were so low that SyFy channel ran the last 5 episodes as a burn-off to get rid of them.

But Netflix may be a better medium to watch this series than weekly TV. You can keep the multiple plotlines straight easier. It starts to go into the complex society of 28 billion humans livings on 12 planets before they are nearly wiped out. Polytheism is the norm, and monotheism is a radical, and often violent outlawed religion.

Give it a try. True lovers of 60's sci-fi fell for the social descriptions in Dune, A Canticle for Leibowitz, Foundation, and Ursula K. Le Guin's books
