Flash of Genius, about the guy who invented
the intermittent windshield wiper in the 60's.
Ford and Chrylser stole the idea and he spent
12 years suing them and winning.

The movie portrays the inventor as a little
eccentric. People who knew him say he
was 20 times worse than that. He was
a fanatic who had 6 kids so they could
all work in his basement assembling
his products. His wife divorced him, his
kids wanted nothing to do with him.
But the movie has him as a folk hero.
Typical Hollywood.

Reminds me of the Weight Bros. They
invented powered flight, or were the
first to do it anyway, Their ideas
were immediately stolen and they
spent the rest of their lives in court
instead of building airplanes.

Live by Night
comes out tomorrow
I read the book
One of the best gangster books I have ever read
Takes place in Boston and Tampa
Its the middle book of a Dennis Lehane trilogy that I highly recommend.
What amazes me about the trailer is that it looks like they stayed pretty true to the book :-)

Live by Night tanked at the box office
Have not seen the movie
Loved the book
What disappoints is that book 1 of the trilogy was much better, The Given Day
I was hoping Live By Night would be a success so The Given Day might get filmed
The Given Day is about the Influenza crisis in the early 1920's, the Boston police strike and Babe Ruth. Fiction based on factual events.

I have seen:

'the Drop' - a favorite movie
'shutter island' - good movie
'mystic river' - good movie, seems better known

ever since seeing 'the drop' I have vowed to read one of his books - thanks for the tip about 'the given day'

Yes, it really did.

It was positioned by the studio as an "awards movie" - limited release in December to qualify it for awards, and then a wide expansion in January.

Well, the reviews were no good so any chance at awards flew out the window. Then once it expanded no one wanted to see it and it bombed massively.

It probably would have done much better had they just given it a normal release sometime in the fall....

Live By Night laid a big stinky egg. Usually
happens when a film is written, produced,
directed and stars the same person. When
that person is mostly talentless, that is.

There are quite a few deleted scenes from
Groundhog Day. Here Phil is a pool hustler.

The writers say they think Phil would have
been in the time loop about 10 years. But
an intensive study was done and they
concluded Phil would have been there at
least 34 years to accomplish all he did.

I started watching a movie on Amazon then turned it off in boredom. Now Id like to see the second half but can't recall the title. Anyong able to help?

Husband in Malibu left on his own for a weekend has two young girls show up in a rain storm. He invites them in to get dry and phone a cab with the usual results of two sexy girls and a married man. After a night of romping around with them they reveal that instead of globe-trotting sexy flight attendants they are 15 and 17 years old and contain copious evidence of the previous night's activities so he had better start thinking about dollars before departures.

So whats the title?

I googled for "two girls show up in a rainstorm" and got a Keanu Reeves movie, "Knock Knock"

Is that it?

One of Rob Lowes real life experiences?

I tried for the second time to watch "Blue Velvet". I just cannot get through it. I hate the pacing. The weirdness is not interesting to me. I would rather pull my fingernails out one by one.
