It's been a decade since the original Transformers movie sold 10 million tickets on opening weekend. The latest and most expensive one sold only 5 million.

Like most of these franchises now, they are totally about foreign ticket sales. The last one made 77.8% of revenue from foreign ticket sales, so presumably this one will be even higher.

Opening Weekend tickets sold
10,247,400 Transformers 7/3/07
14,606,700 Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen 6/24/09
12,140,600 Transformers: Dark of the Moon 6/29/11
12,009,400 Transformers: Age of Extinction 6/27/14
5,054,300 Transformers: The Last Knight 6/21/17

Movies are one of our most profitable exports,
they always have been. The world has been
looking at our films for a hundred years and
learning about America. Nobody makes
movies better than we do, because we never
stand still, we're always looking for better
ways to do everything.

It's funny, the silent film era lasted for 30
years, from the late 19th century till the
late 20's. It had huge stars that mostly
disappeared when talking movies arrived.
It's a time that was important when it was
happening, but we never hear about it
because movies with no sound are mind
numbingly boring unless you know of
nothing else.
If you take a risk, you may lose. If you never take a risk, you will always lose.

I've never seen 5 min of one, let alone
5. I'm surprised they sell any tickets,
they're all the same from what I see
in previews.

Just got through Bad Santa 2. The original Bad Santa was a love it or hate it kind of movie, and I loved it. Call it a guilty pleasure, but I thought it was one of those movies where there was chemistry between the cast and the movie was better than the sum of its parts. I've watched it several times.

The reviews for Bad Santa 2 were mediocre, at best, so I haven't made seeing it a priority. However, it finally bubbled up to the top of my Netflix queue and I saw it.

Coming from the point of view as a fan of the original, the sequel was not all bad. Not all good either. The joke fell flat this second time. They made a decent effort, especially Kathy Bates, but for me it just didn't have the magic of the original. The whole movie was worse than the sum of its parts.

As much as I liked Christina Hedricks from Mad Men, she seemed totally out of place on this movie and not in on the joke of it all.

I do wonder if the truel scene at the end was an homage to The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Or maybe it was just was a natural part of the story.

Kathy Bates was great in her roll. I can't imagine anybody else coming close.

To summarize, fans of the original, go ahead, see it. I'm not saying you'll love it, but it is worth it. For anyone who hated the original, you'll hate this one even more.

Carry on with what you were doing.

Why is it available on your Nflix and not
on mine. It says 'unavailable to stream'
when I search for it. What kind on Nflix
do you have, I want it. I thought there
was only one streaming package.

...and pay an extra $8/month.

Best part of Bad Santa was that gullible little rich kid who Billy Bob abused all movie long. BBT was relentless and hilarious, and that kid kept a straight face through it all. Put me down for....Loved it!

If you pay more they mail you DVDs. That is how I see 99% of Netflix movies.
